We are contemplating retiring to The Villages. Are the residents welcoming?
We are hoping to make many new friends. Thank you for your time. |
Cheryl Ann,
I have lived all over this great country (and overseas) and I have never seen a more welcoming bunch of folks as we have heer in The Villages. Sure, there are the obligatory 10% that are a..h....s, but most are glad to meet new neighbors. Not to worry, come on down!:pepper2::pepper2: |
Judge for yourselves - sign up for a Lifestyles Visit, come visit for a week or so, and decide for yourself. I think it will be a favorable decision for TV.

You will not believe it until you get here.
Welcome to you Cheryl Ann! I am not even going to try to tell you how wonderful this place is and how warm and caring the residents are here. You will get hugged, waved at, smiled at, invited, kidded, patted and accepted warmly wherever you go. You will hear accents from all over the country except from the people from Ohio who have NO accent at all. You will learn new games called Pickleball and Hand and Foot and have the opportunity to learn how to drive a golf cart at warp speeds. You will go two times or three maybe around a traffic circle before you figure out that Odell just turned into BaileyTrail. You will realize that Hadley is the best Village of all, but to be fair all of the others are very very close.
Welcome. But only tell your friends who are not grumpy. The Villagers don't like grumpy people. |
We bought here in June, a new patio villa in Hemingway. While part timers for now, I'd have to say that everyone we've met has been remarkably friendly.
Our neighbors are fantastic - period. Maybe it's the kool-aid, or the lower stress in being retired, or whatever, doesn't really matter. TV is not perfect, but it's far and away the best I've seen in my life. |
happy people
My husband and I came down in November. After two days, we were ready to move. I just asked my husband yesterday, "What do you like most about the Villages?", The people.
We live on five acres in the woods and our fear was the homes being close. But in the stage of our life, it just doesn't matter. smcgirl |

Welcome!
Cheryl, my husband and I moved here a year ago November from Illinois and the first couple of months I felt like a fish out of water. But I am amazed at the dear, lifelong friends we have meet here. Actually more than Illinois! In our urban area, everything and people were all spread out. And even though The Villages is large, it still gives you a small town community feeling. We joined different clubs and activities, I found this forum, and in no time our social calendar was overflowing.
The Villages is truly America's Friendliest Hometown. I spent my life in advertising, and I can tell you, that's the perfect slogan for The Villages. You will not be disappointed. It's really hard to describe. :welcome: |
Been here since the beginning of December. Have been welcomed by everyone we meet. Still getting used to how nice people are. It wasn't like that where I came from

We moved here in Oct 2007---have wonderful neighbors who welcomed us with open arms. My sister and her husband were just here for two days--took them over to the square on Saturday--they were impressed at the ease in which conversation starts between "strangers." They ended up talking to numerous people --one of which had a daughter who lived in their town--owned a restaurant and they are getting a free dinner when they get back home, compliments of the person they met. I am sure there are some here who are not friendly but we have not crossed paths with them as yet. Come on down and see for yourselves--don't think you will be disappointed.

I agree whole heartedly with Graciegirl.:agree:..
I'd also like to add I came to TV to rent for three months to see if the lifestyle was for me and I bought a house in three WEEKS!!! I close on 2/23 and I can't wait to be considered a real Villager!! Do yourself a favor and do a lifestyle preview - you'll never regret it! |
Congratulations, best wishes, joy, and hugs. I am jumping up and down over here in Hadley. Good for YOU!!:coolsmiley::a040::a040:

We visited a few times just for the day and came back and did a lifestyle preview for a week. We loved it and people were friendly and welcoming to us. We would be there now but we still have a house to sell but once we do we will head to The Villages.
|
Just like mikark, we did a Lifestyle visit and now are desperate to sell our house so we can come down to TV and start enjoying all that it has to offer. Starting with the friendly people. I can tell you that I have never met any of my friends on this site, but I consdier them all to be dear dear friends. I would never have believed that I could feel so comfortable and at ease as I do with all my friends on TOTV. And one of these glorioius days I'll be able to hug them in person!
