any downside to TV ?

Hi people,, my wife and I a few years back were seriously looking at TV to spend the rest of our lives in paradise. Somehow stupidly we wound up here in Deland and we are regretting it. It is so boring over here and to think we could be enjoying all the activities of TV. We have visited many times and know all the great amenities and what life has to offer over there. But is there any downside to living there such as too crowded or too much traffic or to wait 6 months for a dental cleaning, etc. Thanks Mark:)

Reading the posts on TOTV should give you a feel for this. Rest assured if there is something to worry about, someone will post a complaint.

Not enough hours in the day. That is my only complaint

The only downside is missing my grandchildren...but they visit often! I would visit them more but find it difficult to pull myself away from TV.

Yeah, that's right. Look at the complaints. Incidents like: two drivers who were side-by-side on a main road, but going too slow; about some folks who experienced momentary delays in their high-speed internet service; about someone at an adult pool who had to be under thirty. Really serious stuff like that.

I feel like I'm living inside some beautiful symphony here. It's hard to hear any sour notes. It's still planet earth with the woefully imperfect human condition, but we seem to be able to accept it, support others, and even rise above it better here than in any other places I've been.

There was a previous thread about what people hate in The Villages. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...=hate+villages

Nothing is perfect. There may be compromises, but most people seem pretty happy here.

Give ya one more....my wife dragged me here. I wasn't kicking and screaming just didn't want to move to Florida. BUT, she earned the right to pick where we retired and here we are. Three and a half years later, I couldn't be any happier to be here. Can't really think of anywhere else that beats this..there are some thorns among the roses but really very few.:beer3:

Their is no downside to TV....My only negative comment would be that I waited so long to move here ......I could have moved here seven years before I did , instead I went to another retirement area and wasted all that time that I will never be able to get back....
As far as the dental cleaning is concerned, You can always send them in by mail ....

downside to tv

I wake up every morning thinking I could be bike riding or any number of things over at tv. Well, we are going to make it over there as soon as we can sell this house. Whenever that will be.

Just something to consider. Why wait for the economy to rev back up if the only thing you are waiting for is your house to sell. It makes much more sense to just lower your asking price to what ever it takes to sell very quickly. And then buy here in the villages at a discount.

The villages is a very highly sought after place to live. In my opinion the only thing that is keeping TV from selling a heck of a lot more homes is that people up north can not sell their homes to move here.

If you wait for the economy to rebound, I think that it will rebound here much quicker than outside TV. Hence our home prices should start to go up much quicker than outside TV.

This is what I am going thru with my parents who made a huge mistake a year and a half ago and moved to Stonecrest. They "saved" about 30k by buying there over TV. They knew they had made a mistake within 3 months and have had their home for sale for over a year, ever lowering the price to try and get a buyer. I told them a year ago that they should price the home at a level that it would SELL. They wanted to get what they spent for it plus realtor fees. That was $50k ago and still no buyer.

If you have another reason for waiting for the economy to recover, then nevermind.........................

Jeffy, you may be out of touch with reality as to what is going on up north regarding the economy. With the way the economy is here in northern Ohio nothing is selling unless you give it away. You have to have a very good job with outstanding credit rating to go along with a big down payment to even talk to anyone about a loan. I have been trying to sell my mothers house for over a year. Great starter home for a young couple to start building equity but it will not sell. Young couples have not saved for down payments the job market stinks. I am not saying that the institutions should go back to their old ways of lending money but something has to be done to get the housing market working again. Oh yes I did have one offer on the house and that was 1/3 the asking price.

Perfect!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think TV is perfect. Or as close as anyplace can get that's on this planet. It's a beautiful Shangri-La filled with everything you can possibly want. Great restaurants, wonderful people, literally thousands of clubs and classes, lush landscaping, gala events. We've lived her 14 months and I'm still amazed. I would call this a resort community instead of a retirement community, because as someone said, " there are not enough hours in the day." I swear it makes you feel 20 years younger!

We checked out (via mailings and a couple of visits) so many places. I had a tall stack of places we looked through and none of them could hold a candle to The Villages. ;)

I Wholeheartedly agree that there are a few thorns among the roses - no place is perfect. I just think the roses far outweigh the thorns. I have found a few thorns but I have not found a thorn yet that would be a showstopper for me.
