Summer Kitchen
Has anyone had a summer kitchen added after they bought? We are going to build a Lantana and were wondering if it were feasible and the approximate cost.
|
Our Gardenia was plumbed for a summer kitchen when we bought it. I added the summer kitchen myself. I built a frame, added stainless steel access doors for the sink and the grill. Stuccoed the face of the frame. Tiled the top and backsplash, added a small fridge, sink, and a built in propane grill.
We got the built in grill and fridge at home depot. About 800 and 200. The sink, faucet, stucco, framing, doors, tiles, etc all cost about 500. So we have about 1500 into it in total ( with my labor ). So at the very least pay to have TV plumb (hot and cold water supply and waste pipe) and extra electric outlets. If you are down in the new area you will not have the ability to add natural gas line, but mine had no natural gas line and I just went with propane. At least this way you can always easily have the kitchen installed later. jeffy |
Always used.
We have a Lantana and it came with a summer kitchen, so I don't know the cost. But I know you won't regret adding one. Ours is always used and that extra refrigerator really comes in handy! :coolsmiley:

If I were to suggest to my wife that she needs a 2nd kitchen, she would probably suggest that I sleep in the summer BR (located conveniently in the dog house).

I love to grill. I can't even remember the last time my wife used the grill. Probably never, so she's all for it. I do half the cooking maybe more, I love it. My wife is a great cook and doesn't mind cooking but she knows I enjoy it so she lets me go for it. Her specialties are Italian and down home kinds of meals. I like to experiment and try different things. My chili is well known around here, and is requested for any party or tailgate we attend in the fall and winter.https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...con_hungry.gif

We added a summer kitchen about 12 months ago and both my wife and I gotten a lot of use out of it. We have enjoyed this addition to our Lani. Oh, we also put a small built in frig. which is very useful. One thing I wish we had added was a sink but hind sight is always 20/20.

Thanks for all the replies. My realtor submitted my request to add a summer kitchen and he was told that the summer kitchen can only be added by TV if you do a pool or spa.

Where do you put the summer kitchen in a Guardinia? With the LR slider and another from the bedroom to the lanai, doesn't seem there is a good spot for one.

We just added a summer kitchen on our Gardenia. It has a stretched lanai, so it is 12 ft. deep. We had the whole open end, directly across from the bedroom slider, blocked and stuccoed. And a glass block window added. Ours is technically a bar. since we didn't add the grill. We prefer to grill outside. I also wanted the storage more than the grill. But we have a sink and mini fridge. And LOTS of cabinets (upper and lower) and counter space. We LOVE it!!! :a040: |
For those of you with summer kitchens, do you have a propane tank under ground? If so, could you recommend who you use to service it? Thanks. Deb
