Good Neighbors

After 7 decades I like peace and quiet and friendly smiles and this is why we moved here and are in our third home here. Every neighbor hood has been wonderful, outgoing people, helpfulness all round and tolerance for the sick and occasional grouch that is having a bad day. Lately when I read this forum, it's sounding more and more like a place to gripe, groan and so on. Perhaps it's the growing population, perhaps it's something else but it's not the same.

Maybe we can have a separate section for "gripes of the day", then those who like to read such things for enjoyment or misery would have their own spot. The rest of us could read the helpful articles and suggestions etc. like we used to without having to guess by the title. After all we came and bought in the friendliest place around...and it still is...95% of the time if we just look closely enough.

As skip always says...it's the smallest minority that does the whining and complaining. I have had the same experience as you have.

my wife calls the forum "Squawk of The Villages"

Funny thing, you have control over the computer. The computer not in control. If I don't like something I don't go there.

But if you like ToTV, it's still pretty hard to avoid the griping. I wish I didn't, but I tend to agree with the OP. While t's pretty typical of an online forum, it does seem to be getting worse.

OK, one of the best Engineering Managers I ever knew and a guy who really was number one in getting a job done, said this at a meeting once:
Please do not come into my office and proceed to tell me about all the good things, we all see those items, we are surrounded by good things happening and we all enjoy it when we come to work.
Tell me about the problems, big and small and tell me about what you are doing to solve those problems, that is an assurance to me that our progress and all the good things will continue as we go forward.

Very good approach to engineering problems. But I bet even your manager would have agreed that it can overdone.

That's very true. I find most Villagers friendly, nice and warm. We have been here since June 2005 and I always enjoy it immensely when returning from somewhere else like Palm Harbor or Washington, D.C.
