My word dilemna of the day...
I was trying to think of a word that described an aquaintence of mine....he is always so kind and sweet...sometimes overly sweet...that most of the time everyone thinks he is the most innocent, caring person in the world. However, if you really experience him you would understand that all of this sweetness is really FAKE. He makes you feel like you are a horrible person....telling you how wrong you are....but tries to make it sound so darn nice at the same time.
Is condescending the best word to describe him? http://www.answers.com/topic/condescending |
I think "jerk" is a better word.

why would I think so hard for the big words..."jerk" sums it right up...at least on a PG rated board! PS....where did you ever get the avatar? I must have something like that! |
Ahhh, let me count the ways....
Condescending works. Possibly unctuous. Or maybe smarmy. How about, "He who must be avoided"? Or maybe, "The guy who makes your skin crawl."
Or just :cus: :cus: :cus: :cus: might do nicely. So many choices. Boomer |
Keep them coming Teach....I am taking notes!
Hope I pronounce this one right.... :cus::cus::cus: Yup sounds good to me! |

Maybe we will see the light at the end of the tunnel soon and it will not be that :cus: train. I like the fun and information on TOTV, too. :beer3: Boomer |
Cassie - I think you already have the best word for it - aquaintence and not friend.
|
Cassie,
After reading your description the first thing that popped into my head was "rich *********." I understand you don't know him, but he is one of my husband's old friends who used to make my skin CRAWL. I'm with the others who agree that smarmy is an appropriate adjective for your jerk. |

I used to have a great Aunt who was like that. When she was talking to you, she sounded so sweet and concerned. Then, after you left, you realized that she'd "kicked you in the teeth." It's just that she did it so nicely that it took awhile to sink in. I never had a word to describe her though. :-)

How about a*@#hole. oooooooo that's not a nice thing for an old(er) lady to say!
