The Villages Trolley and Assisted Living

After repeatedly asking the Villages Recreation department what there reasoning is for barring Assisted Living Residents who live in the villages from entering Recreation Centers is. I have gotten no response from them. It has been suggested that it looks bad when the Villages Trolley comes around to see a bunch of people in walkers and wheelchairs in the Recreation centers. People from Assisted Living generally can not play golf swim or any other physical activity. At best they might get to a recreation center on a very limited bias. I would be more than happy to hear what the Recreation Department has to say about this. You would certainly hope that the reason they cannot enter the recreation centers is because the are old and use walkers and wheelchairs and that is bad for business. DO NOT TAKE MY WORD CALL THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT AND ASK WHY VILLAGES RESIDENTS CAN NOT VISIT THERE FREINDS IN RECREATION CENTERS SOME DAY THIS WILL BE YOU!!

RESIDENTS OF ASSISITED LIVE IN THE VILLAGES AND RENT A PLACE TO LIVE IN THE VILLAGES

Anyone who lives here can use the facilities. There are many folks who are in wheel chairs and use walkers and have suffered or are suffering from any number of physical ailments. The Villages facilities are for residents of The Villages. I have never thought that when it is time for some of us to move away from our homes here that we would have a life long pass to use the facilities. I imagine that if we returned after living here, one of our friends would get us a guest pass.

I think there were some excellent responses on this thread you started a couple of weeks ago;

Not to start a war or a 100 post kickback but. If they live in the Villages it's my understanding there's no problem using the Rec Centers. If the live outside The Villages then no they can't.
Correct me IF I'm wrong.

Must pay amenity fees to use facilities. Some assisted living, I know Freedom Point does, allow their residents to pay amenity fees and use rec centers and facilities.

When these facilities are built, there is negotiation between the builder and TV whether units will have access, i.e., pay amenity fees, and how many units will have this opportunity. IIRC, Freedom Point got all their units that opportunity, but I also remember others got some of their units included, but not all. And some got none.

There was a lot of discussion on TOTV about the awarding of access to these facilities since the construction of recreational facilities was done on a formula that counted only the single family homes built. There was concern that adding more people to the mix without adding facilities would overburden them. Similar to the discussion occurring now with the Villa neighborhoods being built in District 4.

Suggested by who ? I have many friends who live in the Villages and use walkers, wheelchairs & scooters.
It's just simple. If you live in the Villages you pay amenity fees to use Rec Centers, etc. If you live outside the Villages, and you don't pay an amenity fee, you can't use the facilities.

I have recently toured many of the assisted care facilities in The Villages. As others mentioned, this is a negotiated item with each facility. There are even some facilities in the outskirts of the villages that are able to pay the amenity fee and use facilities.

That would be a real issue if the villages didn't want people with walkers, canes, etc. to be seen......this is a senior community. ;)

In the earlier thread referred to in Post 2, a number of valuable suggestions were made by posters and many questions were asked in an attempt to help the OP. A lot of genuine concern was demonstrated.

To my knowledge (I admit I have not reread the old thread), OP did not respond to questions asked at that time. Nor did OP provide missing details.

With all due respect, may I suggest the OP review that thread and respond to questions asked rather than start a new thread?

The subject was beat to death at that time and it's possible the OPs lack of response contributed to the thread's demise.

Correct me IF I'm wrong.

Actually, it depends on if the assisted living/independent living facility has an agreement to include the amenity fee into the monthly rent. Some do - some do not.

It is not due to walkers or wheelchairs looking bad for business.

All this was discussed and answered in the OP's previous thread. No need to keep kicking that dead horse.
