What deo we want from our Representative(s)?
The campaigning for the 2010 election will be starting in the not-too-distant future. After all the disappointment in how the U.S. Congress as a whole (10% approval rating?), what do we want of the representatives (there are two) whose districts include portions of TV? Also, what about the new Senator that Florida will elect in 2010.
The intention of this thread is not to become an extension of any party's platform. As TVers, what can the U.S. Congress do to make our lives better within TV, the Congressional district(s) and the State? I'll throw out one idea - I'd like a candidate who will follow a policy of no-new-spending without a dollar-for-dollar reduction from an existing program, so that the budget (and deficit) doesn't grow. |
Along the same lines as your suggestion, I would add
they approach any new budget period with a zero based budgeting process.
The process would necessitate justifying every dollar to be included. Too often budgets include line items that never seem to go away and thus provide a "hole" to store money. The zero based process also DEMANDS an intimate knowledge of the content of the proposed budget. This is VS the usual, all too common method of basing the new budget on what was spent last year, PLUS new stuff for the current year. A very typical budgeting process that allows more spending tha required. BTK |
