Yellowstone Trip

My wife and I are heading to Yellowstone in 2017, probably around September, although Spring is still a slight possibility. Our plans are very general at this time.

We want to spend two or three days inside Yellowstone at one of the lodges. We also will be spending about a week with some friends in a timeshare condo somewhere in the Yellowstone/Teton/Jackson area.

We'd consider some sort of short tour package, but more than likely we'll plan most of it on our own. Any suggestions...either for a possible package or anything else regarding Yellowstone or any of the surrounding areas...are more than welcome.

When we went, and it was probably 18 years ago or so, we stayed at the Jackson Lake Lodge in Grand Teton National Park. It was a great vacation and lots to do which can be scheduled through the lodge. The moose would come up every night to just about the back of the lodge and everyone would gather outside to watch them. Remember in the National Parks there are no TV's in the rooms, I remember only one in the bar down in the lobby. Enjoy, well worth the trip.

My wife and I love it there in the fall. The color is amazing, and the sound of the Elk calling is haunting. One of our favourite places.

Should add, we never book ahead. Just find a place we like, then find accomodation. Stayed in some weird places, but thats part of the fun!

Dress warmly! At that altitude, snow is a real possibility in September. We visited during July many years ago and it snowed the night before we got there. My in-laws used to have a cabin in the mountains not far from there and they had to vacate it each year by early September because the road they lived off of was normally covered by snow then and was not cleared by the highway department. Still, I would imagine that Yellowstone is gorgeous in the late fall and/or early winter. Enjoy!

Oh no, we'll just be in an on-site cabin for a few days. We'll be in the Yellowstone area for closer to two weeks. And we will not miss the Tetons! :)
