high pressure misting systems for lanais

My Florida friend is at it again. We were plowing our driveways last week and he was telling me about a high pressure misting system used to cool patios and lanais. I went to a websight called biggfog and they have all kinds of toys to help people keep cool. Does anybody out there have experience with such a system? Do they work in humid conditions?

Two weeks until closing and Barb and I will be the Clampets....heading south to our rental in Caroline...only this time, we are coming to be frogs. You'll know we are there when you see me charging down the street on my
segway with a big smile on my face. Yahoooo

I haven't seen one here, but I did experience one in Las Vegas a few years ago. It is a temporary cooling. It lasts about 5 minutes or so. It feels great at the time, but goes away fast.

We have been here for six years and have a large pool and lanai. I personally have thought about the system, but could never convince myself that it was worth the money. The days are just not that hot and oppressive. However, if I won the lottery, I probably would eventually get one just to impress my friends.

Misters work best in dry climates, relying on the properties of evaporation to reduce temperature.

This is why we do not use "swamp coolers" here (it is too humid to evaporate quickly), however they are a popular lower-cost cooling system in dry climates.

We found these at Walmart. We use them on the golf course, on the golf cart, at the pool and on the lanai....

We use the portable hand held kind...I think #'s 8 and 24....

The hose ones for the lanai look great and seems like a less expensive option then some I have seen, if you wanted something in the lanai.

Ususally when it's hot ni Florida, it's also humid. I've never seen the misters here, but, like others above, seen them out in the desert southwest. In Phoenix, Tucson, Vegas and Palm Desert to name places I've seen them.
I doubt they'd be a lot of use in Florida's humidity.

They are located ALL over the disney world parks....which of course are in FL. Misters/water do cool the body a lot....humid or not....feels good!

At least two waterfront restaurants in Naples, FL use misting around the perimeter of the dining area. You can sit right next to them and not get wet, but it does make you feel cooler. I have thought about it, but have not checked to see what the water usage is. We have good luck with just turing the fan speed higher at home.

I have seen these at Sea World also, I think most of the theme parks have them. And yes when you have been in the heat all day the do feel good to walk through.

I had that system in my home in Palm Springs but not the one in LA. I really don't think its to "cool" off with, it just puts some moisture in very dry atmosphere so that your skin doesn't feel so parched when you're on your patios (no lanai's in PS or LA, there are no mosquitos). If you haven't experienced the dryness of the high deserts, its not pleasant. That's why I moved to Florida......

The water evaporates so quickly practically before it hits you. I don't think it would be too comfortable on already humidity drenched moist skin? JMHO!

Which is why we bought the kind you can spray right on your body! If you have water on your face and have a fan or wind blowing on you...you will feel much cooler...

Similar to feeling much cooler when you get out of the shower or pool, however the mist does not soak you....and dries a lot faster while cooling you down!

LOVE IT!!

You can buy misters at some of the home and garden stores around TV that work off your regular garden hose... no high pressure needed. They had misters set up around the pool bar at Hacienda Hills last summer. Don't know if they will have them this summer or not. Seems they just made more of a wet mess than actually cooled... just a personal observation... but they do look neat!
