Orthopedic Needed to follow up Ankle surgery.

My daughter broke her ankle in several places. She has had surgery and a plate and screws were inserted. This took place in Massachusetts. I would like to bring her down to The Villages to recooperate but she will need follow up care with an orthopedic. Any experience or suggestions as to who I can call? I need help.

Chad Watkins is a podiatrist, not an MD. I would see one of the MDs at Tri-County Orthopaedics or at least insist on one of the MDs at Florida Musculoskeletal Institute.

Can't go wrong with any of the professionals @ Tri-County Orthopedic

Depending on who takes what insurance. My wife gives high marks to dr. Cox in Ococee (north Orlando) Right off the turnpike.

It sounds like an ankle surgery I had 6 years ago. I had a plate and 5 screws and a cast for 6 weeks, followed by 6 grueling weeks of physical therapy. During the 13th week, the surgeon removed two of the screws. I stayed off the foot for 48 hours and then was good to go. (I actually walked all over the DC Tidal Basin admiring the cherry blossoms with my brother 2 days after the screws were removed.) If your daughter will need to have any follow-up surgery, I would be inclined to go back to the surgeon who did the initial fix, but what do I know?! Except for the removal of the cast and then the screws, I did not need any follow-up other than the physical therapy.

Being in a single story house during recuperation certainly beats dealing with stairs on crutches! I wish we'd lived here when I was going through the ankle recovery.

Since I have lived here, I have had a consultation with Dr. Olivierre relative to some hip issues I have developed. He is a highly recommended orthopedic surgeon. Good luck to both of you:)

Thank you so much for your reply. She intents to come back up here because this is where she lives and works. Makes me think I should wait here for her first follow up appointment. Then maybe I should call him tomorrow ask ask if I can do the follow up in Florida. Lots to think about and digest.

I can tell you, if you need a new hip ( I have two ). Go see Dr. Joseph Locker. He is wonderful. He replaced my second hip using the anterior approach. Recovery was very quick and easy.

Thank you. I will make calls tomorrow.
