The Other News Source...

I can't get into the other news source re: an article that's re: someone on a golf-cart getting killed today by a pick-up over by TVRH. Anyone else having issues with the site??

REDCART 09-12-2016 04:44 PM

Yes, I'm getting a database error.

Abby10 09-12-2016 04:47 PM

Just tried. Also couldn't get on. Says error establishing a database connection.

John_W 09-12-2016 04:47 PM

I couldn't get on that site either, from the Leesburg Daily Commercial Golf cart driver killed in The Villages - Daily Commercial: News

Golf cart driver killed in The Villages

http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townn...size=940%2C626

LADY LAKE – A golf cart driver was killed Monday when a pickup truck struck the cart while it was crossing U.S. 441 in The Villages.

The accident occurred in front of The Villages Regional Medical Center in Lady Lake. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Stephen Sanchez, 77, was driving his 2016 Atomi golf cart east across 441 at Bella Cruz Drive when he was struck by a 1998 Ram pickup heading south on 441.

Sanchez was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries. The pickup was driven by Sean Patrick Donovan, 27. Alcohol was not involved. Charges are pending.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission reports that about 15,000 golf cart accidents a year occur in which someone is injured seriously enough to seek emergency room treatment. The Villages, where thousands of residents get around by golf cart instead by car, experiences a number of serious accidents involving golf carts every year.

This is so sad. So sorry to hear this. Prayers go out to all involved.

Was this a "Street Legal" crossing 441? Can' imagine--- tragic

I do Not believe it is legal for a regular Golf cart. There is one legal crossing a little further north 441, 175st at Stonecrest

Bjeanj 09-12-2016 06:24 PM

I passed this and *believe* it had a license plate on the back, which would mean it was street legal.

I believe the speed limit there is above the legal golf cart speed. Right around 45 MPH.

I can get on the other site but there is no article on this tragedy.

My heart goes out to the people involved.

Check the "breaking news" column on the right.

As there has already been speculation that the driver was not allowed to cross 441..

316.2122 Operation of a low-speed vehicle or mini truck on certain roadways.—The operation of a low-speed vehicle as defined in s. 320.01 or a mini truck as defined in s. 320.01 on any road is authorized with the following restrictions:
(1) A low-speed vehicle or mini truck may be operated only on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 miles per hour or less. This does not prohibit a low-speed vehicle or mini truck from crossing a road or street at an intersection where the road or street has a posted speed limit of more than 35 miles per hour. [my bolding]

So most likely the truck was at fault. Very unlikely the lsv is crossing against light.

Unfortunately death resulted, rest in peace.

Doesn't mention it has to be at a traffic light or stop sign.

(There is a traffic light where this happened)

(I'm guessing "Street Legal Vehicle" is a "Low Speed Vehicle".

The damage to the blue vehicle doesn't appear major - maybe the driver hit his head on something?
