:agree: See my multiple posts in the Grab Bars Needed in Shower thread linked above. I finally went with Mike Scott Plumbing which I felt did the most secure installation. I don't recall the cost, but it was worth it to me to be very secure. A friend, no longer in the area, repaired and repainted the wall where the installer cut out to put in added support for the bar. I would never consider the suction cup type bars. Be safe. |
IMHO, grab bars should be attached at studs, unfortunately my stud finder does not work through tile. It may be possible to find the stud with a small drill in the grout line, then repairing the grout line after the grab bar is installed.

We travel with the suction cup bar. Agree they are not as secure as an installed bar. If you use the suction cup bar be sure to check it each time before using. They do loose their suction on occasion.

Punching holes in shower tile, stone or fiberglass is not for amateur tools or skills. I suggest you let "Grab Bar Bob" install them. 352-821-6860. He's been doing them for 9 years and has installed in our 2 homes and several neighbors. All with excellent results. Reasonable price, top quality products and he has the specialized tools, anchors and knowledge as to where to place them.
