Grammar Girl for the English Majors

First, let me say that I'm not (and never was) an English major, however, long ago I signed up to get email from Grammar Girl. It's just so darned interesting to know this stuff, but that doesn't necessarily mean I remember any of it. ;)

I wanted to share some of the more interesting grammar tips, but it's copyrighted material. Tony suggested I paraphrase the tips. Um, rewrite the Grammar Girl? I don't think so! :laugh:

The good folks at Macmillan have graciously allowed us to post their copyrighted material on TOTV! They even offered to send me art files to post with the grammar tips! Wow!

Judy

We would be delighted if you shared some of the Grammar Girl tips in your community paper. We ask that you credit the source and provide the URL for the Quick and Dirty Tips web site along with the tip. The full URL is quickanddirtytips.com.

If you would like to feature the Grammar Girl logo along with the tip, please let me know and I will send you the art file.

Thanks for getting in touch.

Regards,

Richard Rhorer
Director of Digital Business Development, Macmillan

How's that for cool? I'll occasionally share some of the more interesting tips for the English Majors out there in TOTV land, as long as you all promise not to argue with ME about proper grammar. Hey, I'm just the messenger. Now if I can just figure out how to include the art....

Judy;

Good idea. I'm somewhat of a grammarian and am always interested in the style changes within American English. This should be fun.

Thanks Judy,

And I would never argue about this stuff. In fact, I mess this stuff up all the time.

Thanks for getting us connected to "Quick and Dirty Tips."

So, can we still use "whom"? And where does the quotation mark go today -- before or after the punctuation (yes, I know what the rule was but has it changed?).
