HP Envy Help

I have an HP Envy Laptop. I bought a new 22 inch monitor to hook up because the print was so small on the monitor. I used an HDMI cable to hook up from the monitor to the laptop but the HDMI cable doesn't fit real well in the HDMI slot. It works the monitor but I can jiggle it and it is not all the way in. At first the volume worked on the laptop but now it does not. It's hard to enjoy my new monitor without sound. Any suggestions? I don't think my new monitor has speakers as I don't see any on the sides or front. I even tried a different HDMI cable and it fits the same.

Check with HP, it is possible that you will need a special HP cable due to a physical constraint between the cable and the case. I have had this happen to me with different cables on various pieces of computer equipment. I suspect that the cable is not fully seated, since you indicste that you can still jiggle it. All of the equipment I have with these cables, they fit very snuggly.
Hope this helps.

I second that. I have tried using supposedly compatible power cords with my laptops, and the connections are usually loose. If I stick to one that's the same brand as the laptop, it's always a good fit.

I guess I will have to pay HP support to guide me in the right direction since my warranty expired 6 months ago and I didn't see the cord I need on their website. I wonder if I need to buy some speakers for this monitor.

Followup on HP Envy Question

Hi all:

I thought I would follow up to let you know how this all played out. I contacted a friend who is really good with computers and he said to check the audio settings. I did that and somehow the audio was defaulting to the monitor instead of the laptop. The monitor has no speakers. I changed the setting to the laptop and now my sounds works! I've been without sound for about a month now so now I'm listening to all kinds of music and videos and everything. So happy. As far as the cord not fitting I may eventually get that taken care of but for now it all works. Thanks for your help.
