Cedar Key

Can anyone make a trip report on Cedar Key? Just wondering if it's worth a two day trip? Thanks

We've gone up there just for the day and to get some clam chowder at Tony's. They've won national awards for the chowder. There is a wharf of shops to browse but not that much for two days. It got devastated in the last tropical storm though.

Unless you are a photographer, kayaker, sun worshipper, artist, or like to fish, you will enjoy your first day and spend your second day wishing you were home.

We have been there twice and it is nice one day trip. 2 hour drive each way

We were also curious about Cedar Key and made the trip after visiting the Plantation in Chrystal River for lunch. Lunch at the Plantation was memorable, and we figured Cedar Key was close straight up 19 and would complete our day. It turned into an hour's ride, which would have been fine except Cedar Key was a real disappointment. It looked like a resort that had been abandoned 20 years ago with motels closed and boarded up.

It snowed when we were there

If you visited recently (since the storm), it may have been boarded up because of the devastating damage.

Cedar Key needs an extensive redo. I wish I could be more positive.

Thanks much! Think I'll look for another destination!

I agree.

It's a nice, short.... one-day trip.

Drive up, have lunch, walk the main street (even if you went in every shop/restaurant, that still takes less than an hour)...then drive back.

The Cedar Key Bed and Breakfast is very charming and not damaged in the storm. We went for one night just to see Cedar Key. You can stop on the way at The Grumbles House in Dunnellon for more fun. Both places have websites for more info. We have been there twice - a very quiet, a bit run down island that I dubbed " the anti- villages" lol - worth seeing once anyway, it's a pretty drive. Also the B & B is pet friendly as well as some of the restaurants that are on the water! We liked it.

Cedar Key is a great one day outing - where would you go for more days?
