Would you consider moving if...

If The Villages built a village that consisted of houses with front porches, would you think of moving?
I would, it would be great to have the whole neighborhood sitting on their front porch and talking to each other. I love my street but sometimes you can go almost an entire day without seeing anyone outside.

What a wonderful idea. I grew up in the day when every house had a front porch. Neighbors met neighbors especially in the Late afternoon. Now it's lanai's in the back.

I agree, I live in a patio villa, and what I like is the front lanai, I get to see people walk or ride down the street, stop and talk when walking, and best of all no kissing lanai,s. it is not huge just 1190 sq, ft, and a 12 by 12 lanai , but we love it. we had a back patio in our old house in Michigan, and hardly ever saw our neighbors. it is perfect for the 2 of us

In a minute!! I've often wondered why more farm or ranch-style homes aren't available.

My street is the same - I see my neighbors in the supermarket, WalMart, the post office, but rarely in the neighborhood. I think the summer heat has a lot to do with people staying inside, but it would be nice to know people are alive and well!:)

Maybe not a porch (elevated, wooden), but we build an entertaining area on our front with an eighteen inch high wall so we can sit and watch.

We love it.

I love the idea and certainly love the looks of those kinds of houses, but the reality is air conditioning beckons us inside most our three year in Florida. Might start an opposite season porch trend -- winte porches!

We sit in our portico, same as a front porch.

That’s why we like our lanai as many neighbors walk past and say hello. It’s almost like having a front porch. I am looking for a large rocking chair to place in the grass to be even closer to the sidewalk. :)

I see quite a number of people sitting next to their open garages - as a substitute for front porches??

Driveway get togethers or parties work pretty nicely as well.

Is that the same thing as a little alcove leading up to your front door? We have one and sit there; even installed an outdoor fan in the ceiling. It's too hot in the 90-degree weather, and I wish it weren't so recessed because people don't see us sitting there easily. But it's nice to be out there.

We enclosed our portico with screens and put a nice sitting area our front so we enjoy both rain or shine. I loved the patio villa porch and this is why we did it. Many of our neighbors did the same. I agree before everything moved to the backyard, neighbors all interacted with each other but you don't need much space to make an area out front that looks good.

We also added a misting unit. For about $29 you get a fine mist and can be outside even when it is hot, hot, hot.

OMG my hair! I would look like Albert Einstein.

You can aim the mist.
