I went to Lowe's spoke with them and they told me that they did not have a product there that would not eventually succumb to the sun. I have brushed nickel door handles. so I tried some very fine steel wool and it cleaned it up almost to original. I intend to work on it more. I am leary about using a metallic cleaner
In the meantime I will continue to search out if such a sun resistant product is available If I do I'll post it

When you get your handle cleaned to where yo want, go to the automotive store, and buy CLEAR paint for WHEELS. This paint is very hard, and non yellowing. I have used it to coat brass with excellent results.
NOTE: cover the key hole, and use a good lubricant around the mechanism before painting, be sure to clean up an spills, so that if the paint gets into the cylinder area, it will not stick.
Hope this helps.
