flying golf balls
 

this is my first post so I really don't know what I am doing. Yesterday while driving on Morse my sister's windshield was hit by a flying golf ball.This was quite a shock and fortunately only the windshield was cracked and broken and she was not injured.Does this happen often? No one wanted to take a report about it so I wonder if it happens often.As many times as I drive past all the golf courses I had never given it a thought.

I have driven on Morse many times and hardly ever even see golfers much less errant golf balls.

However, did have my windshield broken in my driveway by a bad slice over my house.

I'm sure it happens occasionally. With the number of golfers here, and numer of golf courses, I'm sure the number of people who have hit houses at least once out number the number of people who haven't. Most golfers, if they are aware of any damage their ball does, will offer to take care of it, However, balls slicing over homes into streets are out of site. It would be very hard to pin point where the ball came from, let alone who hit it. Your car and house insurance should take care of fixing any damage.

Florida has a law that car windshield replacement is not subject to your car insurance deductable. In other words, your insurance has to pay 100% for a windshield replacement or repair. Now I doubt that this law was passed solely due to gold ball breakage, but who knows.....!

On my policy, we have seperate "glass coverage" that costs a bit extra but is worth it. However, that's in New York. Not sure how Florida works.

Is there a difference....
 

between having you windshield hit/cracked by a stray stone on the highway and a stray golf ball while driving near a golf course

bottom line...its a random occurrance....one your car insurance should cover.....solution for both....don't drive anywhere...or don't drive anywhere within 300 yards of a golf course

and yes...i am a golfer....and yes...i hit stray balls.....and....who knows how many stray stones i have tossed into another drivers windshield....mine has been cracked and replaced 3 times in the last 10 years....stray stones all.....no golf balls yet

I had my windshield replaced twice in Los Angeles, but not for stray golf balls but more from stray bullets, LOL.

Good question though Joyce, I should check my policy and/or drive fast up Morse..... Good luck!

That's no fib, Niels. 2 times, windshield hit by bullets from overpasses. Cops couldn't find the guys doing it. That's why I moved to HEAVENLY HADLEY!!! :coolsmiley: oH, BTW, while driving, incidentally...

I really wasn't concerned about the financial responsibility of damage but questioning the frequency of personal injury due to golf balls. I am sure that if I was ever able to hit the ball it would never go in the right direction! Windshields can be replaced...will chalk it up to a freak happening

A few years ago we were going to Easter at my wife's sister's ranch near Vacaville, Ca. Driving on the gravel road for the last half mile I heard a crack and noticed my driver's side mirror was broken. Stopped the car to look it over and found a .22 bullet sitting between the window and the door molding. The deputy said we were hit by a rock until we showed the retrieved bullet.

I've played enough golf to have hit a couple of people (and homes) with balls and also be the object of being hit a few times. I live on a golf course up here in MA and have been hit while driving my car. No biggie but it does happen. Part of the game - Heads up!

I've had many near misses when driving by Pimlico.
