LIFTED: Boil Water Advisory for Amelia, Bonita, Hadley and Largo

In the Daily Sun today, there was a small column indicating that these villages are under a boil water advisory until further notice. This morning we also found a note dated April 9th at our front door indicating that Units 122, 133, 129, 136, and Kenya Villas are under this boil water advisory. The local radio station is also mentioning this frequently.

We've thrown out the ice from our refrigerator as well as water from our Brita picture since it had been filled in the past day. I'm reluctant to use the dishwasher for now.

Does anyone know if this means that we need to replace the filter in the fridge once the water is again safe to drink?

Call North Sumter Utilities @ 750-0000, I'm sure they can answer any questions you may have.

I believe that if you ran the water through the system during the advisory it would be safe to replace it....only if there ends up as a real problem in the water...which is only a 1% chance at this point. The results will be in tomorrow at some point and residents in those areas will receive notices on their doors again with information.

What is the reason for the boiled water advisory - does anyone know?

There is a possibility of cross-contamination of a non-potable water line with a potable water line. In simpler terms gray irrigation water mixed with drinking water. Only a small area is involved and apparently the risk is fairly small.

The TV station is now running a banner saying that the boil water advisory is over.

North Sumter Utilities advised in a phone call that there is no need to flush plumbing in our house nor to replace the water filter in the fridge.
