thoughts on Golf Jamboree ?????

Just wondered why there haven't been any blogs on the Nifty Golf Jamboree that was supposed to be so wonderful for all us golfers who missed the Phillips Scramble ...
Lets see , Does the word SUCK come to mind..??? How about a $3.00 hot dog ?? NO ??? then how about no ice water on the course ???? I could go on and on
If they think they had trouble getting 1400 golfers this year (they got 830]
wait until next year, I never heard so much complaining in my life after the show...mostly about the handicapping system that allowed several teams to to shoot unbelievable scores .....They had better start thinking of ways to save it , Like mandatory three drives from every player , and eliminating five scores cards to qualify for entry,
I may be way off base on this but I don't think so based on what I was hearing..... Oh and did I mention that $25.00 will be returned to us because of Tuesdays rainout , Well not exactly returned , We received a credit to be spent at the golf shop where your coupon and $100.00 will get you a shirt..

And then the putting contest !!! There was no one there to monitor the putting and so you could write down any score you wanted . and many did just that.....
Ok , thats it, wanted to get it off my chest , A lot of it is sour grapes as I thought I (we) had a good score and a good day just to find out we were a joke on the scoreboard......I'll be on the outside looking in next year......

a disappointed fumar

I agree 100% with everything Fumar just posted and to me the biggest ripoff was with the the rainout on Tuesday eliminating one full day of play and then only crediting each player $25 for clubhouse purchases. Where did the other half of that days entry fee go? $99 dollars for two days play and you lose one of those days doesn't add up to me.

Most of the golf 'events' have turned into 'profit making' fundraisers with some of the profits going to 'management's' favorite charities. Bogieshooter might be able to clarify these dynamics.

Obviously none of you read The Daily Sun. (My tongue was tucked firmly in my cheek as I typed that). As a none Jamboree participant I was led to believe it was a big success.
I guess this is another case of a good story spoiled by eye witnesses.
BTW, I have a close friend participant, who was disappointed before play even started.

We definitely need to take the Daily Sun "stories" with a grain of salt.

Golf jamboree

A charity event should be judged by the money it raises. Over 80,000 dollars taken in from players, 60,000+ actually, considering the 25 dollar credit, which has to be spent in shops or green fees anyway. 5,500 of this went to charity. Pretty pitiful if you ask me.

No rainchecks

AT least we got back $25.00 for not having played tuesday due to the rainout. I played one round in the men`s club championship after hurting my back, couldn`t play the second round, asked for a raincheck and was told no refunds or rainchecks. I guess THE VILLAGES need the money more than I do.

Jamboree - Never Again

Our team did have a good time - although 1 stroke short of playing Saturday.

Would like to see a summary of fees & sponsor income vs expenses. Where did all the $ go - certainly not to charity or to benefit the players.

How was the Saturday night (the rest of us paid for) dinner?

Havana charges $31 for a priority round - the $25 credit doesn't compensate.

The putting contest was a joke - a lot of us did not bother to finish.

Forget it next year - $74 for 1 round of golf and 2 hotdogs.

Million $ hole in one - why weren't ALL the closest to pin winners included?

$25 will not get you a 18 hole round of golf at winter rates. Should have at least been equivalent to round of golf at the tournament's participating courses

Let me add one more thing about the putting contest , The fellow just ahead of me about a third of the way through was having a horrible time and took a seven on a hole but wrote down a two.......I ask him how he came up with a two and said that he had a two on the last hole and forgot to write it down . I'm still trying to figure that out , anyway thats when I quit and walked down to get an alleged free hotdog....

math major fumar .............:cus:

Too bad about the putting contest scoring.
What happened to golf being a game of honor?
If people what to cheat on a penny-anti contest, guess what their doing with the rest off their life.

As for the overall event, IMHO, changes absolutely are needed.

While I'm in it to win it, I still enjoy getting out and hitting the ball with fellow Villagers.

I played in 2 Phillips events and now 1 'jamboree'. The Phillips were better by far but on the other hand, it must have cost alot of money to provide the dinners, hot dogs, beer, prizes etc and that's why it's not there anymore.

Jamboree

I played Thursday at Havanna, and the worst part of my day was when I had to show my village ID to get a steamed hot dog on a stale bun, good thing I had a buck in my pocket to BUY a beer...
