Refrigerator Temperature
What temperature do you have your refrigerator on? I have a French Door Whirlpool and the temperature is set at 44 degrees. Some items are freezing (bottled water, lettuce leaves, etc) -- particularly those items on the left side! Any ideas?

We had this problem occasionally, when airflow in the refrigerator was restricted. Cold air from the freezer was directed or collecting in one area, and causing some freezing (whirlpool French door unit). Try moving some of the items around, especially in the area if the ice cube maker.
You could also do an internet search, use your make and model number, and a short description of the problem. If this fails, Beck's appliance repair would be my next call. |

I had moved the temperature up 4 degrees (to 44 degrees) so if this solves the problem I will move the temperature back down to 40 degrees or lower! I like my water cold but not frozen! Thank you to all responders! |
Refrigerator should be between 38-42 in ff section.

In reality - in most systems (short of the larger counter depth Vikings and JennAire)...only the freezer is "cooled". You will notice a duct (probably behind a shield behind the top shelf). The cold air for the "cooler" side enters there. If you block access to that - things in front of it will freeze potentially (lettuce will be damaged). I prefer my milk as cold as it can get - thus, that is where I put my milk.
If you look at page 33 of this link https://www.whirlpool.com/digitalass...%20Care_EN.pdf you will see the explanation. This image (from the above *.pdf) shows where the air is vented from the frozen side to the chilled side http://i68.tinypic.com/makx2s.jpg |
If you have an ice maker it will discharge freezing air into the refrigerator part. If you have liquids close to the discharge they can freeze.

I agree with 'VillageTinker " We had a similar (but not same )
problem with our Whirlpool Refrigerator, I called Beck's Appliance Repair 352-245-3598 and he found a bad sensor. problem Solved. |
Update: The refrigerator continued to freeze everything so I called Beck's Appliance yesterday. They came about an hour later and the technican noticed that the freezer was set at -5 degrees and reset the temperature to 0. He said to wait 48 hours and if it is still freezing to call them back. He wanted to try that before he replaced the board which would cost over $200. So far, so good!
