Indoor shutters vs blinds
 

I've searched around the forums, but haven't come up with an answer to this. Does anyone have indoor shutters instead of blinds? I like the look of shutters more than blinds and they seem easier to use. I hate all those cords. I always seem to pull the wrong one! :cus: Is there a reason why, humidity maybe?, that people don't use the shutters? Seems to me that you'd be killing two birds with one stone; privacy and no worry about curtains. Just exploring my options. Any input would be greatly appreciated. :bowdown:

I seem to recall seeing a lot of plantation shutters in TV. I like them too, but spouse didn't, so we went with blinds. I think most of the blind vendors will be able to provide shutters or tell you where to get them. I believe they are more expensive than blinds.

I have custom-made plantation shutters in my home. They are substantially more expensive than blinds but I really like the look and the cleanliness. Like you, I don't like the cords on blinds and they bring back bad memories of the old metal venetians back in the late 50s that cut my hands when my mother made me clean them. The new materials for shutters keep them virtually dust free and a snap to wipe down with a Swiffer. Draperies trap dirt and always seem unsanitary to me. I ordered mine through Veranda Home Furnishings & Design in Wildwood.

I have the plantation shutters and they are well worth the extra expense. They look rich and since they are attached to the window framing they become a permanent feature that enhances the resale value of your home. Cleaning is a breeze with the swifter and they never become bent and mangled like the vinyl blinds when a pet does whatever it is they do to destroy the blinds. If you compare prices with shade and shutter shops you should be able to get them reasonably installed. Made to measure and professionally installed looks very attractive.

I just talked to Doug from 1-800-FLA-BLINDS. He told me that he does all the blind and shutter work for Pringle, ( a big builder down here).

You can call him and at least get a ballpark price from him. Feel free to tell him that Frank from The Plantation sent you....

I like the look of plantation shutters. They are very classy, beachy and dramatic. HOWever you cannot completly pull them open to shiny glass can you? I still like the decorative element of drapes at a window. Most window treatment, even lined can be washed easily these days.

We bought inexpensive blinds and I sewed window treatments for all of our windows, thinking that we might replace them with Plantation shutters, but I like coming in and zipping up the blinds and let the light come flooding in.

I can always change my mind.

We went with plantation shutters - worked with a guy that operates out of his house in TV (i.e. NO overhead). They came out beautifully - had neighbors over and got nothing but compliments. PM me if you want the contact info.
