painting kitchen cabinets in p.villa DIY

I want to paint my kitchen cabinets white and need advice of the best way to do this- prep work, type of paint? Anyone out there who has done this?

Remove all cabinet doors drawers & knobs and hinges. Then lightly sand all surfaces with a sanding sponge, wipe every thing down with a degreaser. Apply a coat of XIM or PRO Block oil based primer. Let dry then lightly sand again then wipe down. You are finally ready to paint, using a 6in long boy short nap roller and a good nylon latex brush, apply your first coat or Sherwin Williams PRO Classic (semi gloss) water based enamel. Let dry lightly sand and apply the final coat. Re-install the hardware re-align the doors and you are done. Good Luck Len & Mary any questions call 352-205-8213.

I would suggest you hire a professional, based on my own personal experience. I also tried to paint my cabinets. Ended up having them completely re-faced. Happy now, but lesson learned! Peace out...

If you don’t want to do it a second time or have it look like a DIY project, let a pro do the job.

As Judge Marilyn Milian often says, “the cheap always comes out expensive.”

I agree with both Frau Goofy and Retiring. We have friends who tried to do this and it just didn't hold up. Far better to have them done by professionals.

I agree about letting a pro painting your cabinets. Steve's On-Site Services did ours. He is back in Florida. His number is 352-603-6402. If you would like to see his work, send me a PM.

You could do the prep work yourself, which would save money. Then let a pro do the painting. I used a Wagner spray gun, comes with its own little compressor. It did a flawless job. The prep is the important part. I used a roller for the boxes. Used Benjamin Moore Advanced, added some water and flotrol.

Buy new doors. Looks better than painted in the long run.

I would like to see examples of his work if you have them. Thanks, Janet

Painting Cabinets

Try the Rustoleum paint system for cabinets. Lots of color options. It works well. Follow the instructions, but do not use the clear coat they supply which is put on after the paint. Instead, use semi-gloss spray can polyurethane on the doors that you will have to remove to paint and clear coat. Use liquid semi-gloss with a foam brush for the cabinets segments which are fixed to the wall. Two coats and you can lightly sand between coats.

I actually did love to paint. The family joke was Mrs. Nucky had me painting so often the rooms were getting smaller. We hired Steve Kling Painting when we purchased our home in TV. The painting was so good it saved me from buying all new molding, new interior doors and the uniformity of the paint made me look like a hero to my wife. As much as I did like painting there is another thing I did in the old days. Hand over your job to these guys on top of everything they are trustworthy. (352) 750-0426.

My kitchen cabinets have been painted for 9 years, my husband and I cook almost every day. Our kitchen still looks great. Call me at 352-205-8213 to see my kitchen. Mary
