Back to my first question about number of people

75000 people live in the Villages, right? 7000 people are members of this site, many are wannabees like me. And it looks like only a very small number are actualy involved. Im following the story of the IRS bond issue that is really not an issue for people in the Villages themselves except that the Orlando newspaper is trying so hard to rile people up. Is it that so many people are too smart to get riled up and instead are letting the law do what its has to do? But when I look at the site, at any time I see maybe 40 or 50 of the same people over and over looking or writing. Out of 75000 plus all the wannabees. Wheres everyone? Why arent more people involved?

Maybe they have nothing to add. Maybe they would rather just read the posts. Some of the more contraversial (sp) issues do draw 5000+ views.

Maybe they get their news from other sources and are to busy enjoying themselves:laugh::laugh:

Someone please correct me if I am wrong here but I believe the 75,000 figure is based upon the number of homes in TV times two people in each home.
So that figure is not exactly correct. We know a number of single folks that live here and a few folks that own one, two even three homes for rentals. So for the purpose of marketing the 75,000 is nice but I believe actually it is a bit lower. I can not remember where I heard it but I seem to recall someone telling me the actual population is around 60,000 not sure if that is correct.

To answer your question of "wheres everyone", I frequently find people asking me how I found out about something and I tell them on TOTV. Of course the next question is how do I get that or join.

I saw in the Homeowners Assoc. news that there are between 5000-6000 singles in TV.

Dancing at the town squares, taking their dog to the dog park, golfing, playing pickle ball, swimming, watching the sunset from Sunset Point, eating ice cream cones ............................... :pepper2:

We are pleased that we have over 8,500 members, many of whom read, but never post here at TOTV. There are also thousands of people who read, but never actually join. We have nearly 28,000 daily page views. As administrators, we are able to see when individuals were "last active." Many people read daily or weekly, but never post. Just like radio talk shows, 10% call and participate, 90% just listen and never call.

Our plan to "grow" the membership was derailed when, after several months of adverting, the Villages Media Group blacklisted Talk of The Villages. They will give us no reason, and will say only that they have the right to refuse our ads. We understand their right to do so, but would like to know the reason in our case.

We then tried to increase membership by personal contact with people at the town squares, but were asked by Villages employees to leave.

Hundreds of people have told us that they made the decision to move to The Villages after reading Talk of The Villages. That's what we are here for. An opportunity for individuals to ask questions and get answers from the people who know best, the residents themselves.

Now, if anybody has any suggestions on how we can spread the word about TOTV and increase our membership even further, we would love to know. Right now, the majority of our new members come from Internet search engines. Word of mouth is the only vehicle left to us at this point.

None the less, 8,631 people and nearly a million page views a month is a lot of activity and great for our advertisers.

Hey TH,

1. Banner Pilot: Fly-over during a big parade. TV cannot control the air space. I think the banners are reusable. Not the cheapest form of advertising but might be worth checking into. Considering having been forbidden to advertise within TV, using a banner pilot would be a hoot, would it not?

.....Not to worry though. Even though I am in Cincinnati, home of the fictional WKRP, I will not suggest that you drop live turkeys from a plane at Thanksgiving like the promo that guy on WKRP came up with. (You know the guy. Wore the awful suits. Hit on Jennifer all the time. What was his name????....I digress.) Anyway, do not drop live turkeys from an airplane on Thanksgiving. Do not drop frozen turkeys either.

2. Have some bookmarks printed up. I bet there is a used bookstore somewhere around there. Off-site. Ask them to give bookmarks away to their customers. (Bookmarks!!! Yikes!! Did that idea make me sound like an English major???? I better be careful.)

3. Is there an off-site flea market there. How about a booth. Have a drawing for some kind of freebie. A nice basket of whatever. Give people the info on TOTV when they sign up for the drawing.

4. And you can always advertise in the next town over. People do go off site to do stuff.

Oh well. Enough already. I told myself that I did not even have time to post this morning and here I am, drinking coffee, eating Cheerios with walnuts on them, and posting away, telling you how to run the show. But hey, you asked. ...................Sometimes I think I should go back to work. (shudder)

Seeya.

If memory serves me correct (that's leap of faith) I think the guy in the bad suits was Herb Tarlick. Less Nessman was the news guy. WKRP was a funny show.

Hey thanks, Bobkat. Herb! That's it! I welcome the help with the memories. I am a card-carrying member of the "Share-A-Brain" club.

Mr. Boomer just wandered in here and he said it was Les Nessman's idea to drop those turkeys out of the plane. I thought it was Herb because he was the advertising guy. Oh dear. Who was it????

But thanks for the Herb reminder.

I sure hope TH does not drop turkeys out of the sky for advertising. But I still think the banner pilot is a good idea. (And, TH, I am not shilling for Mr. B. He is not a banner pilot. They should be easy to find around there though.)
