Comcast Internet Increase

Comcast/Infinity just increased my internet service from $49.99 a month to $79.99. I found out in an email they sent to me which read.

You're all set!

Hi John, we took care of the changes you requested to
your XFINITY service. You can take a look at your updated service
details below.

Funny thing I never requested any change. Called Comcast customer service and they told me the email can seem a bit confusing but the cost was going up. Huh? Calling Brighthouse tomorrow.

You probably had an introductory rate and the introductory period expired.

Depending on where you live, you may have 3 choices for internet access: Comcast, Brighthouse (or whatever they call themselves these days), and CenturyLink.

I pay $35 per month with CenturyLink including all taxes and fees. Call Comcast and tell them you want "the new customer deal" extended.

I had the same issue 2 years ago at $65. I called then and told them I had 2 sources where I could get service for $25/mo so if they didn't give me a deal I would bail. They gave me $24.99 for a year. When that was about to expire I called again and they gave me $19.99/mo if I would have them charge my credit card monthly. They are on my calendar to call when this deal expires. Call and get past the first representative by telling them you are ready to get other service unless you get a deal.

I asked for retention when I called ( I learned that trick with DirecTv lol) I told him I was cancelling and he basically told me to go ahead. I will try one more time because Brighthouse is $39.99 and Centurylink is $29.99.

Update received another email that said my rate was now $69.99 so I called retention again and told them Brighthouse was $39.99 and Centurylink was $29.99 but I really wanted to stay with them. They put me on hold and came back with a 12 month rate of $39.99 for Blast. As they used to say in Brooklyn "wait until next year."

We are moving into our home tomorrow, (finally, in Labelle. (It's been rented for 1 1/2 years) I need to set up internet and cable, and wondered if anyone knows if Spectrum/Brighthouse will still provide service without a contract or offer "vacation mode," as I believe was done in the past. We are snowbirds for now, and don't want to pay for a full year.
Thanks
Judy
