Would you have any medical insurance advice?

I don't know what medical insurance company I should deal with. I am moving to The Villages on the 24th of this month and need to be covered that day and then for a few months before I turn 65. After that I'll need a supplemental policy to Medicare, but I'll do my homework on that later. My carrier is not located in Florida and has no advice to offer. One receptionist said the day I vacate the premises here is the day I no longer am a member. Yikes!

I'm in the same situation. I have Blue Cross of Alabama so of course, it won't work in FL. Hope someone has a good suggestion.

Why won't Alabama BC work here? I have PA Capital Blue Cross/ Blue Shield and it works fine here. The doctors and labs submit it to FL BC/BS and they get reimbursed by PA.

I've been told that it won't be available to me there but I guess I'd better chick directly with the company. Thanks.

Having moved from Illinois to Florida 5 years ago,my husband changed his insurance Ill BC/Bs to Fl BC/BF. BC/BS has been fabulous for us. My husband has had 3 hospital stays in the last 4 months....and BC/BS has been terrific. I will be on medicare this fall and looking for a supplement. Thought I would go with the retired educators from Illinois policy....but after dealing with BC/BS recently I am having second thoughts...It will cost more money but we know what I'll get. The policy from Ill (that works anywhere in the states) is unknown territory to me.

I have BC/BS NY and am ONLY covered in NY. Emergencies are covered out of state, if, BC/BC NY says it was an emergency.

All depends on which plan you have

All right, if you have Emprie's HMO plan you are only covered in an emergency, but if you have their PPO plan you are covered everywhere under their "Blue Card". My advise, though, is to get a Certificate of Credible Coverage from your carrier and take it to BC/BS of Florida. In that way you avoid the pre-existing condition problem. They will write you a policy.

I was in need of short term health insurance coverage several months ago also. I ended up going to ehealthinsurance.com and, after inputting the info they requested, I looked at the options available to me.

I elected a short term catastrophic policy from Golden Rule. I believe it kicked in only when my medical expenses exceeded $5,000 in a year. Thankfully, I didn't have to find out but it certainly provided peace of mind during that transition period.

I have no connection to the web site or insurance company mentioned - June
