Lung Cancer
 

Good Afternoon....I've just be diagnosed with very early lung cancer that is only in my left nobe...Just wondering if anyone out there has been through this while in the Villages and what specialists they have used. Thanks

Thank you for your reply Kathie...I ended up having surgery and my upper left lode of my lung removed. Fortunately, the cancer was caught early and looks as if no more treatment will be needed....I have to be grateful for all the prayers and thoughts from my friends.

I am so sorry that I didnt see your previous post, and sorry that you had to go thru surgery....it must have been an extremely difficult time for you. I am happy to hear your results. I will keep you in my prayers.

The Airheads, a group helping those who deal with day-in-day-out breathing problems, regardless of how those problems began. Second & Fourth Tuesdays at 10:00am, Classroom 1, Second floor, The Villages Clinic on the east side of Highway 41/27, across from the Sharon Morse Medical Building.

And, the Airheads COPD and Breathing exercise classes, where we learn how to best cope with breathing difficulties, be they caused by long-term smoking or other afflictions. First & Third Fridays at 10:00am, Classroom 3, same location as above.

so sorry to hear of your illness will keep you in my prayers for 100% cure!!! Can you share with me how you come to find out that you had it, did you have any symptoms etc? Were you a smoker past/present?

I am very happy for you that you will not have to face any more surgery. I am sending you positive thoughts and prayers too. Just curious.....How was the cancer detected? Did you have a cough?

Obviously, you know the critical point is to get a competent oncologist with whom you build up a rapport. I think your GP is the best person to make that recommendation since he/she knows you and your situation better than others. Mine sent me to Dr. Iyengar at Lake County Oncology & Hematology in the Sharon Morse Bldg. She is great and I couldn't be happier with her. For my MANY radiation treatments, I went to the Robert Boissoneault Oncology Institute and my treatment was supervised by Dr. Mabanta. They were absolutely wonderful. Like the Morse Bldg, this place is directly next to the hospital and golf cart accessible.

I don't think you could do wrong with this combo. Good luck.

I have forwarded this post to my next door neighbor and dear friend Ruth who is a snowbird and currently in Chicago. Her breast cancer recently returned in the form of lung cancer and she is receiving once a week chemo treatments in Chicago and she wondered about the oncology treatment centers nearby in TV. Her oncologist knows about Motts in Tampa and the University of Gainesville oncology center but I am glad to know about a treatment center nearby. We are hoping that she can return for the winter and continue her treatments in The Villages.

I wish BOTH of you continued health and intensely care and hope that you are doing well. I hate cancer, and I hope and pray to live long enough to see even more breakthroughs against this awful disease. I am GLAD that stem cell research can continue without any conflict now that they can clone cells. That will be the biggest difference and ultimately trigger the information for treatment of most cancers I firmly believe. Here is a big hug from someone who has been there kinda. Each kind of cancer is different I know. I had breast cancer and so did my daughter. My port was removed last December.

Thank you all for your posts..People are wondering how I found out about the lung cancer... Well, I was a smoker but really had no other symptoms. Play alot of pickleball and got out of breath as anyone else who plays in 85 degree weather!!! Just went to see my dr., Dr. Angel Tafur for an annual physical..When he heard that I was still smoking he had me go for a chest x-ray...that's where the cancer was spotted.. I thank Dr. Tafur so much for having me have that chest x-ray. I know a few of my friends who are smokers that have never had an x-ray on their chest....I'm just one of the lucky ones who caught the cancer very early and all other tests show that the cancer was contained and has not spread anywhere:pepper2: I'll talk more with my surgeons this Thursday but it appears that no other treatment will be needed...This was a tough way to quit smoking but as of today I have been a non-smoker for 26 days...YEAH!!!
