New Dog Park Needed
I would like to hear what other people think about all the 1000's of houses being built on Moyer Loop.....and with that comes 100's more dogs. The dog park on Moyer is large and WAS very nice until too many people and their dogs are their. People stand around and talk....like it is a social.....and not watch their dog! I have cleaned up so much dog poop not from my dog! Too many people and too many dogs in one place! Not just snow birds. New residents.
Let our voices be heard! So now, no Lifelong Learning program and too many houses being built without the necessary amenities for all of this! |

Sounds to me like the problem with that park is with the folks standing around chatting rather than watching their dog and picking up its poop.
If there is a new dog park to be developed my guess would be that it will be for the new villages south of rt 44. |
Of course a second dog park would be great, somewhere closer to Buena Vista. Consider this, between 466 and 466A there are probably 5 times the amount of homes that are in the Brownwood area and there is only one dog park. That's the area from the Villages High School to the Mallory Golf Course south to Colony Shopping Center to west of Buena Vista. That one park is stuck behind a fire station, on a hillside with trees keeping the ground damp and with little growth. Here's a photo of that park.

We have a lot of amenities here in TV and we have to be realistic about what we as a community are willing to pay each month for amenities. I would think that the dog park location was taken into account when it was located where the new homes are currently built. If everyone picked up after their dog, there wouldn't be a poop problem in the dog park. Perhaps I'm missing something----is there a need for the dog owners to "police" themselves?

Interesting that many.....most amenities are in rec. centers and are done by volunteers! I am actually one of those volunteers. I do not mind doing it, except for all those who complain and argue with each other about a "space" . I wonder what the owners would do if we volunteers stopped volunteering!!!! And, yes, a big part of the dog park problem IS that people do stand around in groups and talk and do not watch their dogs. BUT, they are building too many houses before thinking about facilities.

You bought the dog. It is not the responsibility of those of us(which is most by the way)which don't own dogs to solve/pay for your problems. Deal with it!

We have a couple of dog parks here in Cary NC. If you want to use it the annual pass is $40 per dog for residents and $80 per dog for non residents. In addition, there are several rules and requirements (vaccinations etc) to get a pass to get in. This is a fair way to set it up and I am sure the city still loses money every year providing this.

I don't like dog parks personally. My dog is too much a princess to be around mutts. :P

Thank you. I do walk my dog in my yard. Dog parks are for exercise. My comment was that many people do not play with or stay with, or even watch their dog at a dog park. Obviously, there are people who are not animal lovers who commented here. This Also this seems to be a place for smart remarks - not just this thread, but many others. That is sad.
And, yes, the owners and developers DO need to think of all facilities needed and put them in place before building so many more homes. |
