TV Post Office & Temp Change of Address
Looking for input from those who have made a temporary change of address from TV. I did this at the beginning of June and despite two calls to the Lady Lake Post Office, have received no forwarded mail to date. Both times that I called, I was put on hold for what seemed the longest time, then was told they would look into it. Neither time was I given an explanation of why it's taking so long or even where my mail is being held. Has anyone else had this experience and if so, what was the end result? Should it take three weeks?
BTW, getting through to the Post Office by phone is extremely frustrating as the line is almost always busy. |
When we bought in September we immediately started forwarding to Chicago area from TV. Some things never made it too us and ended up in our mailbox here. Nothing important though. They did forward some junk mail for a while with everything else but that stopped eventually and our mailbox was full of junk mail when we arrived to TV Friday. Mial did seem to take a long time to reach us but as far as I can tell we did not miss anything important.

forwarder mail
We tried to do a temorary forward by going to the Lady Lake Post office and filling out the card. Nothing came to our forwarded address. We called the Lady Lake office and they said they had no record. We were in Speedway Indiana so we couldn't come to the LL P.O.
Next we whent to the USPS on line and filed a temporary chang of address. We had to pay one dollar on a credit card but that finally did the trick. After six weeks we finally got forwarded mail. Seems like the web site and the one dollar charge got the results. Tom |
Thanks Carm & Lincoln. I started this whole procedure with an online temp change of address, have since called twice and emailed one more time. Is this a Florida problem, or a Villages problem, or a general Post Office problem? Very frustrating!!

There was a previous thread on local Post Office problems. We encountered exactly the same problems you did. Whenever possible, I either go in person, or try to do things on-line. They messed up our forwarding really badly, and as you say, its almost impossible to reach them on the phone.

It may be a local post office problem. When we moved from south Florida I changed our address on line. As far as I can tell. the forwarding service has been excellent from the former post office. On the other hand, we are missing some mail from senders (like banks) who have our new address, This leads me to believe that something is amiss right here in River City.

I work for the post office. Is this permant change or temporary? Call the post office you have moved from, see if they are forwarding it every day. Then ask how long it is taking for people to get their mail, could be one or two weeks, depending on how far behind they are. Call consumer affairs thru 800 number, see if they can find any info. Have you gotten any other mail other than forwarding? If move is temporary you may want to do premium forwarding. That's what I will do when I am renting to look for a house. If where you moved from is doing their job then contact fla consumer affairs office. If there is a place you can talk to somebody in person that would be even better. Hope this helps.

We have also had problems with mail forwarding from TV. I've learned to do all USPS temporary forwarding via internet, it's worth the $1. Also have changed addresses on various accounts when we change residences (snowbirds) since my bills were arriving late, or not at all. This I do find very annoying as I always pay my bills on time and certainly don't like to pay late fees. Often if this occurs, the late fee can be waived when you call and explain the situation.
I was advised by my bank to change my address on accounts at each move as there are some instances where the sender does not allow forwarding. Another alternative is to have all of your bills paid automatically by your bank, however, I choose to not do so as I check for any errors before paying, and there are often errors. Online banking is the way to go; a tremendous savings in many ways, especially with postage on the rise again and no checks to order or write. I like the up-to-the minute look-see of the accounts and easy transfers, as well. barb |
Thanks Cher, as mentioned, this is a temporary change of address. I have called the post office twice. They could not give me any information. They just said they would look into it. I did get an official confirmation in the mail that they sent to the forwarding address, so I know they did received it.

Just an observation. When friends of ours went contract (common in aerospace engineering to work 1 year for one company and the next somewhere else.) They discovered that after the second relo that changing all their bills and statements to paperless online access only and paying them online was safer. They had their identity stolen through misdirected or not forwarded mail. They have only found one utility that didn't use email bill and online pay so for the most part have switched to this and a private post box, you know in those U.P.S. send places.
