Senior Games

The 2017 Villages Senior Games are to be held April 24-30, three to four weeks later than usual. Half of the residents will have left by then, significantly reducing participation. Crazy!

The all year rounders have found a way to win at last!

Your are right only the half Residents will miss it. With all the Events jammed in less that week and most like Events on the same day and same hour? It's get it over mentality anyway.

They had been held in April for several years prior to last year. There were numerous complaints about them being moved to March. There are parades and many events that happen while snowbirds aren't here. Sorry, TV doesn't revolve around their schedules.

Since they go to a huge effort to put the Senior Games on, there seems little point in doing so just a few weeks after half the potential entrants have left.

"Little point"? A little extreme imho.

Maybe that's the idea. After a couple of years of low entries the organizers could say there was no longer sufficient interest in the Senior Games and pull them, like has happened for certain parades.

That would be a great shame as TV is billed as an "active retirement community" and the Senior Games is a great way to bring athletes from different villages together.

Sorry, PB, I didn't mean to imply that the 50% who are full-timers don't deserve the same weighting as part-timers.

What I meant to get across is that by holding the Senior Games at the normal time - which has generally been late March or early April - they would have double the potential number of entrants for basically the same amount of organisational effort.

Fair enough. :)
