Ask to see proof of what the returns on their personal funds have been for the last 10 years...then go from there. :D

Don't forget to ask about their management fee/commission structure also of course and then tell them to run their own numbers, based on what they would have paid someone else...the same thing that they charge.

Open an account with Vanguard Investments. Invest 30 percent in the S&P 500 Stock Index Fund, 40 Percent in the Total Bond Market Index Fund, and 30 percent in the Money Market Fund. Over time, you will probably do as well or better than any investment "advisor" will do for you.

And remember the new administration wants to ELIMINATE most if not all for the safeguards that were imposed on the financial industry.

Could you please identify the source of that information? I have a VERY strong interest in managing my own finances and have not seen anything that would indicate they are making any changes around safe guards.

As for Fisher investments. They are very expensive, take more risk than necessary and could not show me information I requested as to the history of their returns during different market cycles. They told me lots of things about how they got their clients out of the 2008 market in time, but could not provide the factual data to back up the claims.

I also believe using Vanguard with a stock bond split to match your risk tolerance is the best way to lower risk, improve returns, and have the lowest possible investment expenses.

If you reply to one of their on-line ads, you will never get ride of them. Mail -electronic and other. Spoken by the voice of experience

It is never a good idea to ask an investment advisor to prove their own performance because they can always "cherry pick" their successful investment products. Investment companies will create multiple fund products, and then only promote the ones that happen to be successful. Anyone can win the lottery if you buy all of the numbers.

ColdNoMore, thank you, you beat me to the reply.

OK. If you go back at look at the last 100 things that site has touted as true, it is so far off the mark on most of them that it is scary. VERY bias in all that they report. I for one will wait and see what actually changes. There is a lot about the Dodd-Frank legislation I want to see changed. Especially around mortgage rules.

Thanks for the response.

Fisher Investments: a one note song being played by a one song band. Do nothing but 1st scream 'ALL annuities are ALWAYS bad in EVERY situation. 2nd, use your money from those sources and turn it into commissions and fees for themselves.

Dodd-Frank: go beyond the misleading headlines, read Trump's three objectives/charges and then explain to me why this is a bad thing. I just don't see it?

We responded for more information in response to one of Fisher's many solicitations. They will mail very expensive-looking, but superficial, materials. If you contact them in any way be prepared to receive no specific answers and will be inundated with emails and mailings that make our local car dealers look like amateurs at the advertising game. After many annoying "follow-up" phone calls, I became somewhat rude and still endured their mailings for at least another year before they finally gave up. If you are looking for solid financial advisers to deal with, go elsewhere, preferably someone local with a verified track record. If you are lonely and would like to get lots of mail, do contact Fisher.
