Yes.

After paying into SS for 40+ years it's nice to be getting some return from it. It's proven to be a nice supplement to ride out the downturn in the stock market.

Don't right now but it wil come in handy after I retire!

My company factored SS into my retirement pay. When I turned 65, my retirement check went down by the amount of SS I would get at age 65.

So yes, I need my SS.

I calculated my retirement lifestyle knowing that I was going to get the SS check monthly. I paid in for 35 years, Why shouldn't I take it?

Yes, I paid over 50 years into it and did not have a choice of whether or not to pay. My employers had to match it. (Funny how that part is never mentioned.) They were not given a choice, either. It was either pay or not be in business. Would you pay into any other program where you were assured that you would get a return on your investment and then say, "Oh, that's ok. I don't think I'll take it?" We were never told that it would be enough for complete retirement, but was intended as a supplement to whatever other funds we acquire on our own. (I even had one employer that listed his portion among the "benefits" they offered their employees. Hello, every other business in town had the same "benefit" so why should I choose Business A over Business B on that basis?)

I do not actually need it for retirement, but my sentiments r the same as others. I paid into the system for a lot of years and it is nice to get a return on my money.

I agree with most of you all. I paid into that ponzi scheme for 30+ years, I'd like to get some of it back.

We raised our children to totally not count on getting any of theirs back when they retire because it won't be there. Do you think they may be able to take it off on their taxes as a loss?!!!!

Yes, I want my S.S. and I plan on drawing it at age 62, That and my Navy Retirement should be enough I hope, because I reaaly don't want to utilize my 401-K. It's for my wife after I'm dead. I really hope she don't get to use the 401-k money for a long, long time!
