Surgeon General

I know this is a little off-topic for the political forum, but with all the talk about health care and the appointment of Regina Benjamin, I thought I would ask this question: With all the talk about preventive medicine, is it a wise decision to have an over-weight surgeon general?
I know I'll get some flak for bringing this subject up, but my wife and I was listening to the radio yesterday while in the car and the conversation was getting real wild.
I personally would have picked someone to lead by example. Obesity is a major problem in USA and it costs Americans billions of dollars in health care costs.

She seems like a good person. Hopefully she will go on a weight loss plan and take us all with her.

That is a great idea...Like turning a lemon into lemonade. And I mean that in a good way. A high profile person setting a good example would be inspiring .

Ever been in a hospital for any length of time? Have you noticed the number of health care providers are over weight? Been there, seen that.

Yep, I had a primary doctor that was a rolly polly and had a red face. His philosophy was to treat everything with drugs. Never once talked to me about preventive maintenance. Because your a doctor is over weight.. does it make it right? Also, I know doctors who still smoke cigarettes.

My Dad, a heart attack survivor, quit his first cardiologist because of the MD's smoking.

Years ago I was sent by my doctor to talk to a Nutritionist to help me with my diet and controlling my Diabetes. When she walked in the room and introduced herself I excused myself and walked out. This woman doctor had to weigh close to 400 pounds and here I was around 200 pounds. LOL
I think Regina is a very poor example and she needs to look in the mirror.
She does NOT set a fine example .:agree::agree:
