Duma Key by Stephen King, Good but help me understand please
 

Just finished and it kept me coming back timt after time. However it left me confused at the end. On his walk on the beach back to big pink who did he capture. My gues is a minion but doesn't seem right. I would apprweciate your thoughts. Herb
