What do you call the people from your state?

Do you remember the family trips? Always asking "are we there yet"?
And playing all those funs games....like looking for different state license plates! Well this summer, my husband and I decided to drive to TV instead of the flying. Yes the drive was nice. BUT I finally starting asking those famous questions........

So I decided to play a game. The problem is that I do not know all of the answers (correct ones that is). So I thought that I would ask my fellow friends. The game was to name a state and to guess what people in that state are called....like , I am from Rhode Island and here we are called Rhodeislanders. And yes of course, people from Florida are Floridians.
What would be the names for other states?

Hi neighbor,

I am in Ohio, next door. I was just wondering if you had ever heard anything about where the name Hoosiers came from.

The only thing I have ever heard is that it was from back in the days when people generally lived in the same area for a lot of their lives and knew just about everybody for miles around. But if, by chance, they happened to meet somebody that they did not know, they would ask, "Who's your father?" Or, "Who's your mother?" (I guess I should probably look it up because I really do not know if that is right.)

Anyway, I have always thought that driving through the southern half of your state on the "roads less traveled" is just like driving through a postcard. All those well-tended family farms and beautiful little churches and wonderful barns, some of them round. Anyway, I am digressing, I know, but I like your state.

We are Michiganders. However, now that we moved to the Villages 9 years ago, we figure we are now Michigoners.

As I recall from school

I too am from Indiana. Seems there are many stories about the way Hoosier began. One I remember most is that a knock on the door would bring the response "Who's ere?". Which came out Hoosier.

A funny note: we also lived in Missouri (sometimes pronounce Misery haha...but we loved it). If a person was called a Hoosier in that state it was a put down...like uneducated or stupid.

Tony...what a riot Ohio = English Major :)

Hay Bonny I never heard the term Michigoners but I like it. I'm doing my best to keep the Michigan economy going. Headed for lunch to New Buffalo .
Wonderful state.:coolsmiley:

What great answers...some I would have never thought of. What a way to learn new things. Now I know that there are others out there from other states. Please reply and give us a fun education.

People in NH call those from MA "Massasses" I call them idiots. It wasn't always that way.
