Want to build a golf car garage
Can anyone give me a URL site where I can see how much available land I have to build a golf cart garage. I purchased a house on a corner lot and I only have one side which could possibly accomodate an additional structure, but I fear it is not acceptable to the Villages. Was told there is a place where one can look up his property to see how much available space there is around one's house. As I am currently in NJ I would like to look via my computer. Second option would be to go somewhere in the Villages where I can find out this info in October when wife and I come down for the Winter months.

Are you in Lake, Marion or Sumter Counties? Each county may have different setbacks from the property line. Generally, you can go to that county's website and follow links that will show you your lot, property lines, how much you paid for it, your taxes, setback requirements and any other public information you need.

When you purchased your home you were given a plot plan. this shows you what your set back his. You cannot build beyond the setback lines. This has nothing to do with the survey or the county. It all depends on what is shown on your plot plan. We were told we had plenty of room to add a golf cart garage when we purchased our home in 2006. When the time came in 2008
to do it we were told that although the survey showed one set of setbacks, the plot plan shows the actual set back and we could not build. Don't waste your money trying to fight this. You will noy win. |

From what I understand, any construction would have to be at least 20 feet from a roadway; 10 feet from the property line in the backyard; and 5 feet from the side property line. Whatever you have left after eliminating these "no build" areas is your available build-able property. You might as well call the Villages and ask, as they would have to approve any design beforehand. This is what we were told when we inquired about the property restrictions in putting in a pool.
