Proper display of US flag

As I drive around TV and the surrounding areas, I see lots of flags displayed with great pride. I am happy to see this, but many are incorrectly displayed. With Memorial Day, Flag Day and Independence Day just around the corner, flags will come out in mass. I should remind everyone that when the flag is hung vertically (in a window or from a garden flag staff), the stars belong in the upper let corner when seen from the road. The most common mistake is to have the stars in the upper right corner, just rotating the flag 90 degrees. Again, I love the patriotism, just do it correctly. http://eventresources.com/wp-content...can%20Flag.pdf

Plus if you display at night you should have a light shining on the flag.

And a street light or your lamppost does not count!

I've always wanted a flag pole but with so many rules and so easy to do it wrong I've decided against it rather than make a mistake. I've often seen the flag at 1/2 mast and had no idea why. If I owned a flag pole I would not have known.

How can I say this without stirring the pot. A lot of folks here use proper etiquette when displaying their flags but then again lots don't. To me the most profound disrespect I see every patriotic holiday is the flags stuck in the ground by a thin stick. Never fails about half of them are laying on the ground by the time the holiday has passed. If people are going to put up multiple flags around their properties they should make sure the sticks are sturdy & long enough to withstand the weather. Please don't put them close to the curb allowing the flags to be soiled by passing motorists & golf carts splashing whatever water is on the ground.

A lot of the new flagpoles have a solar light built into the top so problem solved. Seem to work pretty well from my observation. Seems to me that flying the flag is a demonstration of patriotic zeal and love of country. I've always wondered why it was considered a sign of disrespect if the flag was flown at night. Who makes the rules?

I look for the good in everyone, much to my occasional disappointment. If you care enough to put out multiple flags because you are proud to be an American, then do it and don't worry about following the rules 100%. This is IMHO.
