Priority Membership and Trail Fee

Just a heads up on how things are not what one would expect when dealing with priority memberships. I have a priority golf membership that clearly states it includes the trail fee. Since my wife mainly plays tennis, I did not include her on the membership (she never has any difficulty scheduling a match and doesn't play enough to justify a tennis membership). Our prior trail fee ended 6-3-2017 (and it covered both of us when we played golf) and the trail fee covered by my priority membership ends 9-30-2017 (which I now realized I naively assumed would also cover both of us). When my wife went to play golf on 6-5-2017, she had to pay the $4 trail fee because she was not included on my priority membership. So we have paid a trail fee for 6-5-2016 through 6-4-2017 and a trail fee for 10-1-2016 through 9-30-2017 (an overlap of 9 months and 4 days) and my wife still has to pay a trail fee each time she plays golf (all confirmed by the priority membership office). Don't make my mistake.

when we signed up for our priority membership it was explained very well if I did not add on my other half a trail fee of $4. is the cost for each time. It was cheaper to add on to priority

yep happened to me too. My wife worked first six years here when she retired took up golf and I discovered the same problem as you.

Don't expect any understanding from this forum because the majority posting here consider anything TV (Morses) sacrosanct

I discovered after six years that priority membership personally/individually just wasn't worth the price

You keep saying that Sumter Inc. is a corporation and has no feelings. That is true. Some corporations are more praiseworthy than others. I like when capitalism succeeds over government. I am a fan of this dictatorship. I am sick of almost everything I hear and see these days on the news. I am pleased with how this place is run and I strongly suspect the Morse family are decent folks.

I need coffee. I am spouting off to people that I usually get along with and in your case admire.

I am so grateful for what the Morse family has done for all of us.

I'm confused----didn't you just state that the priority membership that covered BOTH of you ended 6/3, and now you have a priority membership for JUST YOU that ends in September???? So why would you complain that your wife had to pay the trail fee when she is no longer covered???? Or did I misunderstand your post?

That was my reaction when I read the op.

Occasionally I see things in The Villages that make me think there is some greedy behavior going on here, but in the case of priority golf and trail fees, I can't agree. I have been a priority member for five years, and every time I go to the golf business office for annual renewal, the agent has carefully reviewed all of the possible scenarios for me, so that I can select the most cost effective plan for me and my significant other who only plays executive courses. They have always explained the trail fees to me and accurately laid out the cost options, so I have no complaints.

I thought it was just my small brain.

Just a head's up

When I joined this forum in 2008 I found it very informative and used the advice given on this forum to decide where and how to buy in The Villages and how to maximize the positive experience of living in The Villages. My original post was meant in this manner so that others would not rely on the webpage description of the Executive Trail Fee covering "households" when the Executive Trail Fee in the Priority Membership is not the same. I did not personally talk to the Priority Membership Office to verify that there was difference. My mistake and the OP was meant to inform others not to make the same mistake. My mother always said if you are not able to say something positive, it is better not to speak at all, so I'l leave it at that. I will not respond to the certain postings that did not have anything positive to say. Y'all have a great day and I still look forward to posting (and responses) that are informative and have something positive to say.

I agree with you about the trail fee fiasco. I rarely play the execs. For the few times I would, I wouldn't mind paying the $4 each time. We priority members should have the option of a lower annual fee without the $140 trail fee included.

If your spouse pays the "whole household" $140 trail fee, then we are double paying.

If you are PRIORITY and the wife is not - she pays a reduced amount for trail fees. :read:

As a part time resident I very much dislike the priority membership option. It strongly favors full time residents who play often enough to make the membership cost effective and makes it almost impossible for non-members to get a t- time during the busy season. The membership should be available to all residents at a monthly cost equal to 1/12 the annual fee or simply not available to anyone.
