Need a cat "whisperer"
 

Our dear sweet Molly has started marking her territory after my sister's dog came to visit. We had our vet run tests to be sure that it wasn't anything physical. We are trying anti anxiety meds with no help. We can't give her up to a humane society which would be too traumatic for her and no telling what the new owners might do to her. Ideally we could find someone who would be willing to adopt her. In a new place, hopefully, she wouldn't feel compelled to mark her territory. Does anyone know of a cat "whisperer" to help her get over this? Our last resort would be to put her down which would break our hearts. She is a sweet, loving 3 year old tuxedo who is very unhappy with herself. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Try adding litter boxes. I would say three should work, more if you have a huge house. This worked for a cat that I pet sat for who was doing the same thing. She just needed more box options. Some open, some enclosed, see what she prefers.

Odds are the dog disturbed her when she was using the box. As suggested, give her a few box options. Good luck!

She is on anti anxiety meds and we have two litter boxes. I have sprayed vinegar where she has gone and a pet urine eliminator ..She does use her litter boxes but would prefer to go elsewhere. I might start taking her meds myself, putting her down is ripping me up inside

Try a different kind of litter too

Throw out all old litter and sanitize the boxes. Input new litter and use a different location for each box.

I have dealt with this. If your cat is going outside the box, first find where she is going--(there is a black light you can buy) Then you must wash with WATER -- if you washed with a cleaning agent you need to get that smell out-- wash wit water till no smell. then take Natures Miracle and soak with Natures Miracle to get the smell out. put a cloth down and soak with Nature's Miracle. Do this wherever your cat has gone outside the box. Nature's Miracle should have an 800 number you can call. And also get another box for the cat and use the same litter she is used to. As long as cat can smell where she went outside the box she will continue. The black light will tell you where she went. Do not use ammonia, or any other cleaner. This works. I did this years ago. Call the 800 number to see if it has been updated. I am sure this will work.

Yes. We have used this with good results. It plugs in like an air freshener, but there is no odor humans can smell.

Dr. Elsey's litter is excellent. It is expensive, but scoops well and stays fresh a long time.

Jackie at Kitty Camp Cat Resort helped us the best with this. We asked her, because you'd think a cat resort would smell, but Kitty Camp never does. She told us to get a black light, use it at night, and use Zero Odor Pet Formula, according to directions, on all areas that lit up, and for large areas, to use it twice. She also recommended Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter, but we never needed to get it, after following her instructions. She's the best local cat whisperer we've found here.

put her new litter boxes in garage, she will survive the heat and there will be nothing of substance to mark.
I did this with a female who suddenly decided to relieve herself in the house (also had her checked out by the vet)
After two weeks she forgot about it... did the trick
