Ship Collision

Maybe one of The Villages Navy veterans can answer.

How could a US Navy guided missile destroyer collide with a container ship at 2:30 a.m. while on the open sea?

I have visited the bridge of cruise ships and have seen their radar systems. I would imagine that a Navy ship would have radar equipment at least equal to a cruise ship. The container ship also would have radar, I would imagine.

Are some court martials going to come of this or total loss of command for the skipper of the Navy ship?

Hard to miss this ship in the night. The source says this ship is moored at a Tokyo harbor?

MV ACX Crystal - Wikipedia

I suppose the Japanese and US investigators and others( Philippine?) are aboard the MV ACX Crystal now in Tokyo's harbor.

I thought the same thing. It's hard to believe that that a war ship can be hit by a container ship. It sounds ridiculous and absurd. Somebody must have screwed up. Why did the media report on this without demanding an explanation?

manaboutown 06-17-2017 05:26 PM

I thought two ships were supposed to pass in the night, not collide!

So much for our high tech ????? Give the boys a raise

It appears the container ship ran into the side of the US Destroyer?? We lost some sailors from the collision so this is a big deal. Prayers to the families.

It's very sad to think that the U.S. Navy can't win a battle against a container ship. I hope they don't ever need to fight a real war.

[Something is strange anyways. Just showed on the News the container ship made a sharp uturn right into the destroyer. What was on that container ship that maybe blocked detection?

What news station does that come from skip0358?

This reminds me of the Navy commander that said last year that their battleship was being endangered by Iran with their tiny motorboats. Really? I would expect the Navy to blow them out of the water way before the battleship became "endangered". Give me a break.

It was on the News tonight showed the freighter make a sharp upturn into the destroyer. You can also Google it ,it's online also.
