Consumer Report will help you out a lot. Online for $6.95 for one month they will tell you the highest rated machine and what to stay away from. The house we bought had 2 year old LG high end
models and the fridge and the microwave are gone already. The Microwave caught fire. We have had luck with Sears our entire life but have been using Home Depot in Lady Lake because of Zero interest financing and excellent customer service. Good Luck. Buy something you can get serviced. No one wanted to service LG.

I would never purchase another Samsung appliance. Our refrigerator and washer/dryer are all Samsung. Have had problems with them all - multiple times. We are very pleased with our Kenmore Elite dishwasher. Does a good job and is very quiet which is important in our open floorplan home.

Every overseen you ask will have a different answer. Do what Nucky says, research with consumer affairs.

Generally major appliance quality has gone down across the board. My appliance repair guy in Indiana told us to buy used. He claimed the new items were prone to failures. He attributed it to the average person moving every 5 years or so. The manufacturers are focused on features not life. He also said recently that his repair business would be gone in five years. He said that like flat screen TVs the trend is to make new appliances with no intended repair. Thus they do not have to produce spare parts.

When people indicate they had a problem with a particular item, it would be interesting to know what the issue was.

I agree consumer reports is a good source of info as are Amazon reviews.

With CR they are showing a frequency of repair for the various manufacturers, which is good. Keep in mind those are overall for the type model and none are zero. Also a bad model will skew these numbers. That is why reviews in a specific model are helpful.

I think the best you can do is find a model that has the fit and function you want, then pick the one that has the best reviews of several sources.

We're new here, and want to replace the electric range with a gas range. Anyone had issues with that conversion? I also want to have TECO come out and "certify", or at least verify, my gas line is safe for the conversion. Other advise?
