Hemingway's Restaurant

What a disappointment this place was last night. The food was mediocre at best. Prices are high and not worth the money spent for the small portion and so so taste. Service was also poor and seemed like we were dining at a Wal Mart cafe. Can't say anything good about this place. Pick another place to dine.

Havana's oysters on the half shell are expensive, small, and not worth buying. But, if you want great oysters, go to O'Shucks in Wildwood.

We've been there twice in the last 2 months and we have been very pleased both times, as have the 8 people with us 4 of us once, 6 of us the other time). One of the few restaurants we consider consistently good. I guess every place can have an off night, but we haven't experienced one there in a long time.

Wife and golf group went there today for lunch. They were told that there is a new General Manager, new Chef, new staff and a new summer menu. They were disappointed with the food.

They have a new " Golf menu" three wings $7.50, 1/2 cuban sandwich $7.50. The owners of this and other restaurants have screwed them up. They changed the pool bar over to the Oasis Burger Bar and screwed that up.

To the owners of Hemmingways, if what Ihear is true, we will not be returning, we used to love your entrees, good premium liquor @ happy hour--if you are so under capitalized to not withstand your first non snow bird season--you're not going to make it-- sad to say we will miss you

I definitely would check it out for myself before pronouncing judgement.

Half price Happy Hour drinks are a great draw as are their appetizers at Happy Hour. The Caribbean Chicken Wings were excellent.

I, too, have to return to see if anything has happened recently.

One thing for sure, they have changed their chefs and managers often, IMHO their best chef left to work @ Turners, after she left we hand to return several entrees--the food quality, quantity and presentation has gone down--the bar staff has kept us happy- will find out in a few weeks

When Hemingway's changed their menu last Fall, they lost us as customers. This used to be the place for good seafood in The Villages with multiple fresh catch entrees from the Gulf and flown in seafood from Hawai'i. Now you're lucky to get one fish dish and fish and chips. No Triple Tail, no Yellowtail, no Grouper, etc. If they can't get back to what set them apart from all the other Country Club restaurants, then bow out and let someone else pick up the seafood standard.

Chatbrat 07-18-2017 07:09 PM

We used to go to Kapalua Bay, it was IMHO, the greatest resort in the world--we know good seafood--if Hemingway's has sunk to the mediocrity that is accepted as norm in TV-its their loss-we will be venturing elsewhere--

When we came looking for a place in 2005 Hacienda had a Friday night seafood buffet that was excellent. We returned at the end of 2005 and it was gone. There is not in my view a decent seafood place in or around TV. My wife was given a gift card for bonefish several months ago and suggested that we use it for our anniversary.
This is the third and last time for that place.

As for country clubs not one has lived up to its supposed reputation.
I don't know why given a captive customer base country clubs continue to fail here but they do and have as long as I have lived here. i really want to say otherwise but..........

Its a shame the population in TV, won't support fine dining. we've been criticized for eating at the bar, by people who are content to sit at the same bar and drink happy hour drafts and split the minute happy hour is over. cheap beer is supposed to a drawing card- no restaurant can survive if all their customers consume nothing but happy hour drafts--its way too prevalent at every country club in TV

We used to go to Kapalua. One of my favorite restaurants, Jameson's was there.
