Solar Sync Settings for Hunter PRO C Controller
 

Can someone please tell me what the proper setting is for the Villages for the solar sync on the irrigation controller?

When you turn the dial to the solar sync setting, the number on the left side of the screen should be set on 3. That is a regional setting for Florida. The number on the right side is a calibration number that can be set from 1 to 10, depending on how well the solar sync is adjusting the watering times. But, the builder usually sets it at 10. The seasonal adjust setting should be set at 100 percent when you initially set the watering times or when you change the times. The solar sync sensor will automatically change the seasonal adjust percentage from 5 to 300, based on the weather conditions. This will increase or decrease the actual watering times. For example, if the percent goes down to 50, the watering times will be cut in half. However, my system has never raised the seasonal adjust percentage above 100 percent.

This is a reference I found. Use it as a place to start.

After living in our house for the last 9 months, I have learned to not touch the seasonal adjustment setting on the irrigation control.

Just set the duration time on your sprinklers for whatever you want. We use 45 min for the grass and 25 min for the shrubs.

Monitor the seasonal adjustment setting. If the weather gets hotter, the setting will increase by itself and the duration time for you sprinklers will increase proportionally. When it gets colder, the setting will lower by itself and the duration time of your sprinklers will decrease.

From my experience, it is useless to change the seasonal adjustment setting. If you change it today, it will revert back tomorrow by itself.

The solar sync algorithm is flawed, regardless of regional parameters. Disable it by disconnecting the blue wire and set your watering times accordingly.

Best thing I did for my grass.

Have you checked that your solar sync sensor is still working? Mine failed after 3 years, and I found out they have a 5 year warranty, so I sent it back to Hunter, and got a brand new one. The tip off that mine was not working was when a neighbor noticed sprinklers on after a rain storm. If you do not mind getting up on a ladder, you can check these yourself. There is a projection at the top of the sensor, you should be able to push on it and hear a 'click', if you do not the unit is probably bad.

The Hunter Pro C has a delay setting you can activate without cutting any wires. You can delay Solar Synch doing anything but gather data for 99 days and can continue to refresh that as needed. As long as it's in delay mode, it will not affect what you set for your watering times and amounts. Reduced my usage down from 40,000 gallons at the peak of the drought down to 10,000 now ( large lot).

42 years of mechanical engineering experience has shown me that a physical disconnect is much much better than a software adjustment if you don't want an action to occur. Whatever works.

Just called to look at timer settings last week on a home built 2 years ago. they were using 30% more water than Apr May Jun of last year. The lawn tech had turned off the rain sensor. Not the brightest idea considering the rainy summer , and Zoysia being very susceptible to fungus.

9 out of 10 problems I find with timers and sensors, were inflicted by a person that thinks they know what they are doing . Lightning takes up most of the last 10% w/ mechanical failures not absent, but quite rare.

By the way, I have 35 years of irrigation experience... residential, commercial, agricultural and golf course.
