Detroit (2017) - Rotten Tomatoes

Would like to hear opinions of this but please try to keep politics out of the responses as much as possible.

I am definitely planning on seeing it. I lived through it. I have a very strong memory of walking down Woodward Avenue, a main street in Detroit, it was the day before the riot started, we had no idea that it was going to happen, but there was a really strange feeling in the air. I can't explain it, but it was real enough that as a 16 year old I felt it.

I was in the Maryland Army National Guard and called up for the riots in Baltimore. It is a time I would rather not think about more than necessary. I will definitely pass on the movie which may or may not accurately depict what actually happened (most likely not!).

That's exactly what I was thinking, why make that film, who would even want to see it? I guess that was the studio paying the director back for Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.

I lied through the riot in Detroit, I was 17 at the time
and saw the army jeeps with machine guns on back
patrolling my street. I also saw white and black people
together looting stores laughing at the police who were ordered to do nothing. My father was on the police reserve and was told to ride on a fire truck with his 12
gage shotgun, when people were sniping with rifles
from tall buildings. My good friend in the army reserves
came to get my 30-30 to guard the gasoline tanks, he was given a gun from the army with no bullets. It was the worst time in memory in what at the time was a decent city. I have no desire to relive that time, every house on my block had a gun close at hand, it was a week of sleepless nights.

Perhaps it is a human weakness
 

In my NEGATIVE OPINION, people in a mob are like a pack of wild mindless dogs. There is one or two leaders and innumerable followers.

Re:police action
In Detroit as well as future and past events, the police are not allowed to act-reason for empty guns. As said above, the mindless mob quickly discovers that the police will not act. In fact in Detroit they were told to pull back. Perhaps, a proper move unless you had your life's work tied to a business. Had you been armed. Had you injured a mindless rioter sadly, you would be found to be wrong.
He she it would get a hotshot public defender and you would be paying your atty $300 an hour to defend you against an endless budget. No one would say it in public but, you can bet the public defender would be well aware of it.
