Sad that he also suffered through alcohol and drug abuse. Favorite of mine as I grew up in the 60's and 70's.

Glen was an incredible guitar player. I have it from a good source that he was "discovered" by Frank Sinatra - who over the years discovered a great many talents - at a studio session in LA. Glen was backing up Frank at a recording session and plinking away during a break. Frank noticed and came over and complimented Glen. They hit it off! Frank actually designed the semicircular theater at the Cal Neva, a configuration later used in several Las Vegas casino show theaters.

When I was a teenager in Albuquerque Glen was playing CW music locally, following in his uncle Dick Bills' footsteps. I knew Glen's drummer's sister and the son of his uncle's drummer who also drove the band's bus. Anyway, Glen would get some money together and do a CW recording which sold to some extent. Then he would do a crossover to pop which would flop. Eventually he succeeded at crossover and really got that music genre's popularity going. My dad is a big Glen Campbell fan, so I'm sure he is feeling the loss today. Glen was one of the greats.

And then there was that "Wichita Lineman." To this day, I can't see a utility truck on a country road without thinking about that guy........

Of course, now that sleeping bag surely has been replaced with a sensibly supportive, though overpriced, Tempur-pedic mattress.

And I do hope the "Wichita Lineman" is now happily retired with a nice portfolio that includes some good, dividend-paying utility stock.

My old albums are long gone -- so this afternoon, while in the throes of nostalgia, I went to Amazon and ordered a Glen Campbell CD.......But.....I will not be hearing Glen through those huge Pioneer speakers that Mr. Boomer brought home from Okinawa -- and that we also used as end tables beside our couch. (sigh)
