Important----scam alert
Everyone please beware. I just received a phone call from someone impersonating a federal marshal who informed me I had an outstanding arrest warrant for contempt of court for failure to appear to serve on a federal grand jury.
These people were VERY, VERY GOOD. Do not get sucked in. It took me over 10 minutes to ferret them out, and I'm pretty savvy. I called the federal courthouse in Ocala and they are aware of this scam. I tried reporting it to Sumter co. Sheriff's office, who gave me to seniors vs. crime---they have received 8 or 9 calls about this scam in the last hour, but unfortunately can't really do anything. So be careful. |

Seriously, what do they mean by cash vouchers? Ocala is in Marion County. If the scammers wanted you to bring vouchers to Ocala, it would seem the Marion County Sheriff could set up a sting to catch them. Also, what was the phone number that showed up on your Caller ID? I have "nomorobo" on my telephone and it works great. Since installing it, there have been fewer and fewer robocalls trying to get me to pick up. Thanks for the warning. Hope no one falls for the scam. |

Impersonating a Federal LEO is a felony. I hope the Marshalls office goes after them.

My experience is it is going nowhere unless you keep at it. As part of our identity theft, the bad guys entered a change of address with the USPS forwarding our mail. No one cared. The USPS didn't care. I thought that was a federal offense to mess with mail. Maybe it is but no one cares. The USPS wouldn't even tell us where our mail was being forwarded. That information is confidential.

they were moments away from getting into all of her savings, accounts, etc including a college fund she set up for her kids. |
My father-in-law fell for a "buy it with your credit card, ship it to us at double the price" scam. Thank goodness I was able to catch it after just one transaction.
I tried to report it to everyone I could think of. I had phone numbers, mailing addresses, etc. NO one was interested. Credit card company, USPS, FBI, Illinois Attorney General. Even the Senior Scam Alert acted like "yeah, so what else is new?" I can only guess that they have zero chance of ever catching the criminals, so why bother? |
