advice needed

I need an exhaust fan installed in the ceiling of the garage so it will pull hot air from the garage. Also we want to have some louvres cut in the garage door for more air flow. We do NOT want a whole house attic or roof fan.
Does anyone know of a company that does this kind of job? Thanks in advance. Lucky Sevens

Before you have louvres placed in your garage door check your homeowners insurance. One of our neighbors had it done and then had them removed when it changed his hurricane coverage. I guess it is wise to NOT have louvres here in the event of a hurricane.

I have also heard that exhaust fans in the garage don't work very well in reducing heat.

We had it done by Solar Guys and it made a big difference. We block them off when we get a hurricane.

I would hope Frank D'Angelo weighs in on this thread---I believe he has answered this question before.

I agree. My next door neighbor had an exhaust fan and garage door louvers installed. It was a total waste of money and did nothing to reduce the heat. I have noticed that some people prop up the attic access panel to allow hot air to rise into the attic. You may want to try that before spending any money.

Why not crack open the garage window (assuming you have one) and either install a fan or open the attic door. The natural convection should pull in the cooler outside air, and stop when the temperature equalizes.

Not to mention that any ceiling mounted exhaust fan you are considering installing should have a fire damper.

Thanks for all your comments. Lots to consider. I think I will check out the window exhaust fan first.
