How can I test my golf cart batteries?

Club Car - 3 years old

48 volt system, 6 batteries, 4 cells per battery.

Seems like batteries can not supply full power all the time.
Power will drop off for a few seconds and then speed up. Can happen four or 5 times in a mile or two trip. Can go at full speed.

If cart sits in the sun for a few hours problem goes away.
