How to pay for Texas

How should this be natural disaster be handled. The state of Texas is expecting the Federal government to print and borrow as much as is necessary to make them whole. The President is rushing down for a photo op with the checkbook. If we take borrowing, or if you prefer stealing, from our grandchildren off the table how would it be resolved?

Sandy cost us 100 billion under Obama. Let's see what DT will appropriate to Texas over time.

When trump sees how many Latinos live there he may not approve any funding.

Since the governors of Texas have publicly stated many times that they want the federal government to stay out of their state, why should they get anything?

The Feds should honor the wishes of Texas and let them take care of their own.

Instead of crying for federal aid, maybe the Texas authorities can get Joel Osteen to open his mega church and help his flock.

I don't think that is a very fair or reasonable statement. If he didn't run down there, you would be complaining that he was another Bush. Even the Democrats interviewed are saying he is doing an outstanding job, supporting this catastrophe.

I understand how you feel about the money spent on these disaster for relief, but what would you suggest? I bet even with the money that will be spent, Trump will manage to get our money's worth. He is good at negotiating the cost down. I doubt anyone can dispute that. I agree that our grandchildren are in for a rough ride when it comes to national debt. However, NO PRESIDENT since Eisenhower has paid down on the National Debt. That's because you have to have a revenue surplus in order to do that, and it just doesn't happen.

They're in for a rough ride...especially your granddaughters daughters. They will live in Mexico II. Have you been to a border town lately? Picture ALL of America looking like that.

We borrowed and gave it to invaders who are/have successfully bred us out. Congratulations...suckers.

When the women started getting a say...we became too nice...and they took advantage of it.

Sorry Don, but I've lived in different countries and I happen to like almost every one I met in South America. And I have had many working for me and they did excellent work. I like their food too.
On the other hand, I've known some very lazy Americans that did sloppy work.

Look, I can't argue you stats and facts. All I can do is relate to you, my experience. On the other hand, I do know a few that were victims of Affirmative Action.

But you came back...you came back to America...the good 'ol USA.

Soon...you won't have that option. The good 'ol USA will be Mexico II. And NOT as pleasant as wherever you were in S America.

I've personally been to several C American countries...Belize, Honduras, Mexico...and not JUST the tourist areas. I couldn't wait to get back to "civilization". The problem is..."civilization" is waning...civilization is fading...as THEY...the uncivilized...become the majority...and begin to run things. America won't be America any more...it's be like visiting Mexico.

Certainly open for discussion....

" Two deputy director nominees at FEMA still await confirmation. Mr. Trump has not yet nominated someone to lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which includes the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center. And the center itself is in the midst of a director search, after its last director, Rick Knabb, left in May to become an on-air expert at the Weather Channel.

The administration’s proposed budget cuts to FEMA and NOAA were likewise attracting renewed attention on Friday, as the agencies dominated the news.

The administration has recommended slashing FEMA programs and grants that help cities and states prepare for natural disasters to the tune of $667 million. That includes cuts to the Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program, which provides funding states and cities to better withstand the impact of hurricanes and coastal storms."

Trump Administration Faces Hurricane Harvey, Its First Major Natural Disaster - The New York Times

The budget cuts may need to be scrubbed for next year and possibly further in the future.

Tough to see disasters become political footballs, but....

"Texas Republican Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz — and Vice President Mike Pence — in a political bind, forcing them to choose between quick aid and their own past demands for spending cuts to offset emergency disaster funds."

"Cruz and Cornyn voted against the final Sandy aid package. During that debate, they voted for an amendment that would have cut domestic spending to pay for the emergency funding. Cruz at the time said that not all the funds were being allocated properly. "

Hurricane Harvey Could Also Cause a Political Storm | Fortune.com

This is one case, albeit not the clearest, where we need not a divider but someone who can bring congress together and put the folks in Texas first.

Of course, I came back to the U.S. Don. The USA is the best in the world. There is NOTHING in those other countries I would want here. They can all have their multiple forms of Socialism, but just keep it there. Americans are simplistic and in my opinion very naive when it comes to their sudden fad for socialism. Our parents didn't fight communism and socialism just for the heck of it. Neither did we, regardless of the politicians motivation.

What I would suggest is raising taxes across the board to pay for this and also the 16 year rat hole in the Middle East. Everyone would pay more attention as I suspect you might. IMO

It WAS the best in the world...now it's #25.

The PEOPLE coming here ARE bringing their home countries culture with them. That is why the border counties are all like Mexico. In 20 years the whole country will begin to resemble Mexico...because Mexican PEOPLE are becoming the majority here.

No...it will come here too...that's WHY they're here because of our generous socialized welfare system. While whites can't afford a child...minorities make a profit form them.

Socialism comes from women and minorities...both gain from it.
