Riding it out here in our home.
Block home in Gilchrist - not exposed too much. If it gets bad - will go to master bath area, roman shower. Only glass block windows in bathroom on side of home. Can even put an air mattress in the shower and hunker down. Safest place I can think of... |
I am also in a block house in gilchrist and plan on hiding in the same place. I could say I'm not terrified but I don't lie.

We are riding it out in our home as well.

Don't depend on the false security of a BLOCK home!
Frame home has same roof as block (wood) Both have same windows Just find a room in the center of the structure like laundry or bath room it will pass in a few hours. It will very noisy and windows may rattle roof vents may may noise. Just download a few weather apps on your phone like Noaa or news 6 Orlando to watch where the eye goes after you lose cable Expect wind direction from North . |
Our daughter's family is coming with their kitties.

Another point I would like to make is we can look forward to is the response of TV to get things cleaned up and up and running again.
When the tornado hit TV some years back, it was amazing how fast the debris was removed and contractors pulled from every where possible to get living in TV back to normal as quickly as possible. |
Staying put. Traffic heading north is bad and no place to go anyhow. Gainesville is now the destination people from south Florida are heading to.

I was looking at my options in case I wanted to leave on Saturday. I would take 44 west to Crystal River and head north on Hwy 19 to Tallahassee and then jump on I-10 west to Pensacola. I use to live in Pensacola and know the area pretty well and drove hwy 19 many times since I grew up in St. Petersburg. So yesterday, on Thursday I was on hotels.com and looking at motels in the Pensacola area. I could of had my pick, anything from Red Roof for $65, Holiday Inn for $85 to Suite type lodgings for $135. This morning on hotels.com there were no rooms available in Pensacola, everything was gone. I went to Travelocity.com and they had 'call' next to most of those motels, I guess in case of a cancellation, but the rooms were now listed at $179, the same ones that were $79 yesterday. In the town of Crestview, which is on I-10 about 50 miles before you reach Pensacola, there was a motel that had 2 rooms for $79. Within a couple of minutes those rooms were gone.

Contact the Attorney General she said she would enforce price gouging

It may be too late to get out of Dodge due to the highways being a parking lot. Talked to someone this a.m. who came down from Ocala early (5:30) and they said it was bumper to bumper going north. I've heard similar reports re: 301. Best to have left earlier in the week OR to be prepared here for the worst and pray for the best!!
Also heard a warning this a.m.---when/IF the "eye" goes over us or close by it will seem like it's all over BUT it's not so stay inside as it will change in seconds to really BAD again!! Use common sense!!! |
Neighbors of ours left at 12:40 pm today (Friday) on 441 by Walmart going north and called at 1:30 and said they were north of Ocala on 441.
